Yes, Jeff but the multi-millions in profits alone these leagues are worth now compared to 1984 mean they put much more money into scouting. Beyond that scouting has been digitized.

Besides Jordan was picked 3rd behind a Hall-of-Famer (Hakeem Olajuwon) and Sam Bowie. Bowie was the national high school standout that was picked for the Olympics 4 years earlier (boycott of the USSR games) and had an outstanding college career. Bowie had a career altering injury his 2nd year in the pros and is viewed as Greg Oden (Bobby Hurley or Bill Walton for you older folk) in terms of being talented but having an injury altered career. It’s not like either of those guys were Darko’s.

For every Nail Yakupov you talk about I show you 3 selections that were correct (MacKinnon, McDavid, Matthews).

Picking high in the draft is why I as a Wings fan tolerates your coaching.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
