Two Wings In The Top 50 Prospect List

from Steve Steve Kournianos at The Sporting News,

Below is a list of some of the best and brightest prospects you should expect to see in the NHL either this season or next. All of the players listed below are eligible for the NHL’s Calder Trophy, and those over the age of 26 or with more than 25 games of NHL experience were left out of Sporting News' rankings....

8. Filip Zadina, LW, Red Wings

Age: 18 // Drafted: Sixth overall, 2018

A top-notch goal scorer who plays with fire and tenacity in all three zones, Zadina has perennial 30-goal potential.

24. Joe Veleno, C, Red Wings

Age: 18 // Drafted: 30th overall, 2018

Veleno has elite speed, vision and two-way play, which were consistently downplayed all season. There's a strong chance Veleno gets added to the list of previous late first rounders who could make teams regret passing on them.

And either is yet to play a professional minute. Top prospects simply by getting drafted.

Plus it goes to show how threadbare the DRW pipeline is. Draft and develop…

Uhhh wut???

So Do we not understand what a prospect is? Were other NHL clubs bursting with 5-6 prospects on the list?

Maybe a better question….Did you read the article or just go right to the tried and tern An article about NHL prospects

Admittedly, I didn’t read the article. My comment is based on the quoted material.

Their criteria:
All of the players listed below are eligible for the NHL’s Calder Trophy, and those over the age of 26 or with more than 25 games of NHL experience were left out of Sporting News’ rankings….

So maybe I didn’t think my comment through before making it, but it is telling the DRW only have two prospects that fit the criteria worthy of making the list, who are on the list only by virtue of draft position. I’m not entirely out of order.

other NHL clubs

The nhl (read not-for-profit LLC) doesn’t have clubs, it has franchises.

Honestly a little shocked Rasmussen didn’t crack the top 50 and that Veleno is ranked that high. Maybe he projects to be a more “all-around” player.
And 2 players in the top 50 is average. 31 teams each with a top 10 of their prospects so not every team is going to have 2 in the top 50.
