Too Much Work For Filip Hronek?

from Max Bultman of The Athletic,

Filip Hronek is the Red Wings’ most valuable defenseman. At just 22 years old, that is already obvious.

He may also, already, be the Red Wings’ best defenseman — Patrik Nemeth still holds the title of best defender, but Hronek and his 28 points in 56 games in his first full NHL season are mighty impressive for his age. That number already puts him among the league’s top 40 defensemen in scoring. He also averages nearly 24 minutes of ice time per game, placing him in the top 20 skaters leaguewide and just behind last season’s Norris Trophy winner, Mark Giordano (a player Detroit coach Jeff Blashill has in the past used as a comparison for Hronek)....

Statistically, though, Hronek’s underlying numbers have seen some evidence of a dip as the season has worn on. Below is a chart showing his 10-game rolling averages in Dom Luszczyszyn’s Game Score metric, as tracked by HockeyStatCards.com. It indicates that Hronek was generally staying in the positive through the first couple months of the season — and that, in the middle parts of November, Hronek’s 10-game averages were grading out at a level that would have likely placed him among the top 50 defensemen leaguewide if extrapolated over a full season.

But after a couple months, there was a pretty noticeable change.

Offensively, without a doubt Hronek is our best defensemen. He also is used in that role. Defensively he’s plagued with poor clearing passes and uses only minimum muscle around the net. For actual defense especially around the net I prefer Nemeth, considerably stronger and he makes his presence known. Nemeth, also appears to be faster on his skates.

Back to the question, Yes Hronek played top D minutes from the start of the year.  Tough in his 1st NHL season.  Ask Cholo.  On the other side WT$ was Blashill thinking by over plalyng Hronek?  Before the season started all knew that the Wings were going to sit around the bottom of the NHL.  Did Blashill need to be told???  Hope the Bald poor interview is gone at the end of this season.

I said it 2-3 weeks ago, he’s wearing down for sure, we put a lot on this kid for his first full NHL season.
