Time For Practice

Ansar Khan tweet,

RedWings on ice for practice. Cholowski and Ericsson are skating. Daley is not. All have upper body injuries.

added 12:35pm, Khan...

lines at practice:
Frk appears to be the extra again.

defense pairs:
Cholowski-Ericsson, which would indicate they're out, but there has been some shuffling as well, so we'll see.
Also Witkowski

power play units:
Bertuzzi-Larkin-Rasmussen (net front), Nyquist-Hronek
Athanasiou-Nielsen-Mantha (net front), Vanek-Kronwall
No Cholowski, so he's likely out for Saturday's game at #Bruins, which is at 3 p.m., not 7, due to ALCS Game 1 at night.

added 2:13pm, Below, Jeff Blashill meets with the media.

Here’s a wild-ass thought: Let Jensen play on the powerplay instead of Kronwall. I mean, it can’t really be any worse, right?

Remember 3pm start on Saturday in Boston.

Remember this too, via Khan,

In case you’re wondering ...
#Bruins have won 6 in a row vs. #RedWings, 3 of those in OT
Boston is 14-1-1 in its past 16 vs. Detroit.
Boston has won 8 in row at home vs. Detroit in regular season, 10 in a row including playoffs.

Wakiji tweet,

Ericsson said he won’t be able to play on this two-game trip as his upper-body injury has not shown enough improvement but he is able to keep skating so his conditioning is still intact.

Blashill tells the gathered media Cholowski will not play Saturday, maybe Monday in Montreal.

The NHL is dark tonight, so maybe a good time to watch the Griffins and it is free.

Head to their Facebook page for details and thanks to a KK member for the heads-up.

Puck drop is 7pm.

Or Hronek…or Sulak….or hell, even Dekeyser. Basically anyone with TWO working legs. Love the guy but he might as well take a stool out there and sit on it. He can’t get to pucks and if it gets by him there are PK’ers beating him and the goalie to it for short handed chances (like we saw last night).

I was baffled when, down by 1 and with the goalie pulled, Kronwall was on the ice. At his best he was never really known for having a great shot or being a great setup guy. And now he can barely move.

Guess I shouldn’t be baffled by anything Blash does anymore, but that really stuck out.

Love Kronwall’s heart and desire to play, but when he is out there he is a liability. He has been a warrior and I respect everything he has brought for the past 14-15 years, but he can’t skate well enough to be dependable. I know the wings are repaying his loyalty to the club, but they really need to play the youngsters….good or bad..

I criticized Kronwall in the post-game thread.  Deservedly so.

However, it’s Kronwall’s first game back.  I say that not to defend Kronwall, but to defend Blashill for trusting him and giving him a chance.

If we go a couple more games of Kronwall playing 20:00 a game and stinking the joint up, then yes, by God go ahead and rip Blashill.  Because that’ll be dumb on his part.  That’s called “not adjusting expectations”.  I guess Kronwall could play next game and tear it up.  I dunno’.  But he sure looked D-O-N-E last night.

My great hope is that by around Game 10, Blashill has let various guys play, and has hashed out who belongs/has earned it and who doesn’t.  And has adjusted scratches and ice-time accordingly, and settled into a lineup and lines.

I don’t care about winning right now as much as I want the guys that have earned the ice-time to get it.  If a youngster is not earning it (like Rasmussen right now maybe?) then stop giving it to him after a fair shake.  If it’s a vet, same thing.

Make it a meritocracy.  The meritocracy is overdue.

Blashill will make this HIS team when he will be brave enough to bench players like Kron and Abby for being totally useless.

You forgot to add putting Glendening out there in 3 on 3 overtime. Blash is pretty clueless. But with him we will get a good pick next June.
