The Wings Could Be Better This Season

from Pat Caputo of the Oakland Press,

The bar for Yzerman’s initial season, evidently, is low. Yet, that could be a good development from the standpoint expectations haven’t been raised to artificial heights because of a front office change.

It also provides for the possibly the Red Wings could jump-start the new era with a surprisingly good campaign....

Yzerman inherited a lot of dead-weight, overvalued contracts from Ken Holland. Anything the Red Wings get from Mike Green, Trevor Daley, Justin Abdelkader, Jonathan Ericsson or Darren Helm would be unexpected at this stage....

Undoubtedly, there are Red Wings’ fans hoping they tank for a better chance at the No.1 overall pick, which in the 2020 NHL Draft very likely will be winger Alexis Lafreniere, considered a generational-type talent from Rimouski in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

However, this version of the Red Wings is capable of providing a bit more than the last few editions.

Jeebus, anyone tired of hearing this “generational-type talent” every single draft?

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
