The Rhythm Method Never Works and You Shouldn’t Have Tried It.

It's been a long, long day.  Torturous.  I tried to give you advice this morning. But you didn't take it. Not a single one of you listened.  Instead you opted to obsess.  You chose to fret and worry, and you probably ruined a whole bunch of Mother's Days.  19 pretty maids all in a row, waiting for you to pamper them.  And all you could do was stress about...you know.

I like this team.  We all do. They've grown on us and they've done more than we could have seriously expected.  It's been a bonanza, a bountiful bouncing April and May baby that you didn't expect.  You thought you took all the precautions, but this one time, this one silly time, the cheap-ass thing broke.  We didn't expect this but here we are, and I'll be damned if we don't love this baby just like the other 21.

And we've learned from the others.  We cut this one a bit more slack. We temper our expectations for their sake and for ours. But when they succeed, even slightly, we start to think maybe they'll be just as awesome as three or four of their older siblings.

But this baby's still a toddler, mostly toothless.  He takes a few steps forward and you're thinking you'd better start putting the expensive shit away, out of reach, because he's got the skills to start breaking things.  Then he falls and you almost breathe a sight of relief. Too much. Too soon.

But you see it.  You've seen it before and you know the signs. This one's got something.  He does.  The unexpected ones always do.  They bring you a kind of joy you didn't anticipate and so everything is new again.

Put the binkies in, boys.  Put 'em in. Keep 'em in and piss all over yourselves if you have to. If that's what it takes.

It's a Game Seven Live Blog, bitches.  We like this team. We dig these kids.  And we've all got a feeling.  This baby just may have legs.

Awesome pics, Cap’n!  I can’t imagine how thrilling it must have been to be there.

About Uncle Mike and those line changes…  I still can’t believe he had the crazy, brilliant, nerve to change up three of the four lines for a Game 7.  And it worked.  Boudreau, and the Quacks, were discombobulated most of the game.  Genius.

I keep thinking about how the (Command Master) Chief wrote recently that Quenneville has never beaten the Wings in a playoff series with any team.

And I keep thinking about how brilliant Uncle Mike was in daring to change up three of his four lines in a Game 7, completely outfoxing Boudreau.

Quenneville MUST be just a tad nervous, don’t you think?

I don’t care about the odds.  I don’t care about the predictions.

I really, really like Captain Z and our team.

One last pic, this is Rumbear in our seats. Literally, the very last row at the top of the arena behind the goal where the Wings shot in 1&3. The pic was between periods, but still there were empty seats next to us and in front of us.

One more interesting tidbit. It was 81 degrees when we walked out after the game. Props to the Anaheim arena staff. I was expecting the game to be played in slush due to the triple digit heat wave we’re having here. But the ice was decent for anytime of year and excellent under the circumstances.

I asked this same question last week.  One of the astute 19 brought up the fact that air traffic is restricted after 10 pm out of John Wayne, so if the Wings had wanted to leave directly after their games they couldn’t have from the John Wayne SNA airport.  Maybe knowing this they developed some business arrangement for maintenance and space at Long Beach.

Assuming the Wings stayed in a Disnelyland area hotel (like the Hyatt) both airports are about the same distance away and LGB is easier in terms of traffic.

Dog willing, we should get together at the 2013 WCF at Staples. You, me, Rummy, The CMC, Gabe, SurferKen, Westwing, Creasemonkey, MrFluffy and any of the rest of the 19 like MO or RW that want to fly in to rock Staples. That LA Juice lady sure seems like she ought to be in the 19 after reading a few of her blog entries.  big surprise

Everybody buy Powerball tickets. If one of us wins, they fly the entire gang to the playoffs. Jackpot is $370 million so the winner could even afford to fly all of us first class.

Did not know this:

Zata is tied for third in playoff goals scored with TPH, but he did it in just 116 playoff games for the Wings.  For perspective (all are playoffs numbers):

1)  Yzerman
GP = 196
G = 70

2)  Howe
GP = 154
G = 67

3)  Lidstrom
GP = 263
G = 54

4)  Zetterberg
GP = 116
G = 54
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
11)  Datsyuk
GP = 133
G = 35

Keee-ray-zay…

Well, I know y’all are hoping that somehow I whipped my shirt off over my head, but that is a different story . . .
Was touring N Italy with my lawyer friend and when I dressed that am in my Fedorov 91 red tee shirt, she said “Why did you bring that shirt on the trip?” to which I replied “RW fans are everywhere.”
Walking that afternoon and some guy from across piazza yells “Go Wings!”.  I raised my clenched right fist to him and said “See? I told ya.” to her.  She just shook her head and muttered “Unbelievable” or something similar.  She remains unenlightened to this day.
