from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
“As I said to our guys today, just because you lose some good players doesn’t give you an excuse to lose,” Blashill said. “We got 20 dressed good enough to win and we got to go out and, if anything, it should heighten our awareness that we better out-work, out-compete and out-detail other teams.”...
Dylan Larkin spoke to both players and said Athanasiou was “pretty shaken up.”
“The reality of it, he didn’t want to be moved,” Larkin said. “He was comfortable here. We had a good group. He fit in with us. But he’s got a great opportunity. He knows that. He’s excited for that opportunity with the players they have, the weapons up front (Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl). He’s going to fit in nice there.”
Larkin called it “eye-opening” when a younger player is moved.
“It’s your buddy, a guy I came into the league with,” Larkin said. “We were roommates our rookie year. He’s a great player. He just couldn’t get it going this year. A little bit of a wake-up call.”
Blashill spoke to the human side of trades.
