The Outlook For Martin Frk

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

2018-19 outlook: Frk boasts one of the hardest shots in the league and he's right-handed, which is in short supply on this team (Thomas Vanek, Luke Glendening and Luke Witkowski are the only other righty forwards). His one-timer is weapon, particularly on the power play. Problem is, where does he fit in at even-strength?

There is no room on the top three lines for Frk, especially if rookies Filip Zadina and Michael Rasmussen make the team. Frk is strictly an offensive player who doesn't fit the fourth-line mold, but that might be the only place he can play. And even then, it might require an injury or two to get him in the lineup.

He could be the 13th/14th forward. If cap space becomes tight, Frk could be waived and, if he clears, sent to the Grand Rapids Griffins, where his entire salary would be buried.

With so much competition up front, it will be an uphill battle for Frk to crack the lineup.

I hope he proves me wrong, but I just don’t think he’s an NHL player.  He’s not gifted enough offensively to overlook his defensive deficiencies.

He’s going to need to score more 5 on 5 to stay in the lineup. He’s probably a 13/14th forward for this season unless the Wings move someone out or are willing to have one of their big contracts in the stands most nights.

The reality is any extra ice time is better served giving it to Zadina or Ras than to Frk.

Believe we waived him and Carolina was the only team to pick him up. After only two games and 17 TOI, they released him, obviously, either not impressed or finding someone else that fit their need better. Frk only has 717 TTOI, not sure why on waivers no one was interested in a hard right handed shot. As for 5 PPG, that’s a little misleading because we spent too much time trying to set up Frk and Mantha at the expense of PP conversion percentage. This one dimensional thinking of Blashill in many aspects of the game has made us a poor goal scoring team.
