The Next Team From Detroit To Win A Championship?

It's a lazy Sunday so why not...

Anyone wish to predict the next professional sports team representing Detroit to win a championship?

The Wings are 7-12-3

Detroit Lions sit at 3-6-1

Detroit Pistons are 4-9

The Detroit Tigers finished at 47-114

Pretty sad isn't it?

I have no idea what team to pick so I will have to say the Wings. When?  That's another question.

I agree Paul, wings. Tigers have been gutted, haven’t watched the Pistons, only read a little on them, Lions, still rebuilding even after first round picks have gone or retired(Calvin Johnson) etc. Just can’t find a team Stafford can win with. Pretty sure Stevie Y can get it done first.

While I’d love to see the Lions finally win a Super Bowl, I do feel like the Wings will be the next Detroit team to celebrate a championship.

The Lions are pretty much hopeless. Will never do much until ownership changes.

Red Wings have a decent shot in the future. Yzerman has done a decent job so far. Get Knuble to Detroit for a week to work with Perlini next home stand.

Tigers maybe in the future now that they have bottomed out but I don’t follow the Tigers really so don’t know.

Pistons - not a basketball fan so don’t care.

It could be the Pistons.  Theoretically they are a single trade away, IMHO, and they should be better than that record.  Right now, this season even, a lot of the NBA is up in the air for the first time in what feels like a long time.  One trade this season could swing them right into that picture, I think.

The Red Wings have the best chance overall though.  They have the building blocks IMHO, and the best GM out of the four DET teams.

Then the Tigers.  They’ll compete again someday, but by then the Wings will likely have already risen.

The Lions will *never* win anything.  RGEP above nailed it perfectly:  Ownership is a total loser (and always has been) and it trickles on down from there.  If fans were smart, they’d stop supporting the Lions altogether until the Ford family sells.  Think of all the people that have been born, led full lives, and died, and in that time period the Lions have won exactly one (1) playoff game.  It’s beyond pathetic.

Gotta be the wings or pistons. Bias makes me lean towards the wings because of Yzerman and the Yzerplan, but in the NBA you can trade for a stud or two and immediately be a contender. I’d put the tigers at #3 since they’ve been torn down and Avila doesn’t seem to have any ability to build them back up. And the lions….are the lions and will forever be an embarrassment.
