Abel to Yzerman

Sunday On The Prairie

It's a stretch, but a little ironic to consider that the Wings head to Walnut Grove today, the little town that ripped the Ingalls sisters out of the grasp of Mike Ilitch in 2012. As you'll joyfully recall, Mr. I, Tick Tock and Chris Chelios flew Red Wing 1 to Madison in early July that year, believing that a personal visit would convince Ryan Suter that Hockeytown should be his home.

It wasn't enough, of course.

Suter clutched Parise's pocket and dutifully followed him to Minnesota. The Wild haven't won squat since and, come to think of it in a belly-laugh kind of way, neither have the Wings.

To my knowledge, that was the last time Mike Ilitch made that kind of personal effort to bring in a big-name free agent.  It's also the very date (July 4th, 2012) that signaled the downfall of this franchise, led by Ken Holland and his "team of advisors".

Today, the Wings are battling for the #1 draft pick in a year where the talent pool is more shallow than any in the last decade.  Vanek is out, allegedly due to injury.  For all we know he could be dealt by dinner.

The Wings take their traveling shit show to a national tv audience today.

Hopefully you're too drunk to pay much attention.

It's a Live Blog, bitches. LGRW, RIP MI and FKH ASAP.

Oh joy, it’s Milbury and Jones talking.  Muted.

Hopefully you’re too drunk to pay much attention.

I thought that was the requisite way to watch Wings games this year.  Never the less, still all in and waiting for the Sheahan hattie.

This season is coming close to being an utter failure.  The Wings aren’t just out of the playoffs at this point, they are in last place in the Eastern Conference.  Not confident they will change that scenario.  L.G.R.W. ?

Hey CN.  The rain wasn’t much in my area of the state.  I was more affected by the snow on New Years when we got 6-8 inches.  Everything has finally melted.

“Wallette” is how you pronounce Oullet?  Really Kenny?

More than ever before it appears the Wings lose the vast majority of 1 on 1 battles.  You won’t win many games that way.

I agree.  I really don’t think he’s completely healthy.  He hasn’t been the same at all.  Wonder if we’ll hear about offseason surgery once the season’s over.

Prime example that shift, Abby turned away from contact twice.

I get back home, sit back down just in time to see us get scored on. Good jorb,

Now another PP for the Wild. Even better. Don’t give away this game in the first period, boys.

Coreau making it too easy for em.  Get him to go on his knees and go with lateral movement.  Takes away all his big size. Hopefully they’ll work on it.

Yep. Sounds about right. That’s our NHL officiating, after all. They’d rather make a quick call and be wrong, then do the job right.

I love it how they’re saying stuff like “he should be sitting for five games”.

Aye, I completely agree it was a dumb move by Nike. If he gets suspended for any more than two, I’ll be incredibly surprised.

Given that Marchand with a long history with the DoPS escaped with a fine after not being penalized for taking down Kronwall, I don’t see why Nyquist with no disciplinary history should get anything worse than a fine since he was penalized and the other guy was back on the ice a few minutes later.

That’s why I threw out the ‘two games’ number. I expect a suspension, despite the fact that his fuch-up isn’t nearly as bad as many others that have happened to the Wings, and gone relatively unpunished.
