So Far 4 In 2, Why Not 6 in 3?

Yes, the Wings have won their first two games of their western Canada road tour and play the final game tonight in Edmonton before taking a detour through Phoenix on Monday before returning to Detroit for a Wednesday game against these same Oilers.

Before this goes an futher, Paul here, assuming IwoCPO is still without web access. (If he does appear before the puck drops, well, you know what to do.)

You know the Oilers plan to pepper Conklin with shots so the first ten minutes of he game are important for the Wings to stick to their game plan.

Tight defense, take advantage of mistakes by the Oilers and head to Phoenix with a win, any way they can.

6 in 3 could turn in to 8 in 4, so let’s make sure the Wings have that chance.

Well.  Unusual game.  Pretty dramatic.  They had all the paperwork together, just couldn’t get to the notary.  Too bad.

Night dudes.

What a bizarre game.  But I guess that makes 5 in 3 (to go back to Paul’s intro), and that’s not bad on the road.

Nite all.

I’ll take 5 of a possible 6.  Would rather not have given up two goals late in periods like that.  Seems to be a bit of a curse at this point.

Cal called it. 5/6 is stellar. If Conks stopped 5/6 of the shots, we win tonight.

If they’d got 1 in 2—goals in minutes of 5-on-3—they win tonight.

Watching the replay of the 3rd right now. I fell asleep after the second cause I have an almost 2 year old to take care of today. He doesn’t understand the words old or tired.

Conks has to go. His lack of Conk-fidence infects the rest of the team like a plague. If the Wings were to score 100, Conklin would give up 101. He is just that bad anymore.

I am happy to escape with a point. Phoenix is gonna be a tough task. I hope J-Mac is ready. Bitches.

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

That is was what really hurt us. Come on, we had the 5 on 3 for almost 2 minutes and just stood around. No killer instinct what so ever.

I guess I’m going to be the positive voice:

We’re in 1st place overall by only 3 points instead of 4.  Our 2 primary divisional foes are both starting to fold facing a road-heavy schedule in the 2nd half.

Jimmy Howard will come back eventually.

Mike Babcock’s seen enough of Conklin to never let him play again.

Sorry I missed the LB, had to make a road trip.

Holeee crap, Conks was awful.

The writers at MLIVE have posted a poll , “Should the Wings trader for a backup goalie, go with Conk or go with JMAC?

I think Joey Mac is a perfectly capable backup.  Not if he needed to start 20 games due to long-term injury, but to start 2 or 3.

Quite frankly right now I’d take the other Alaskan (Pearce) over Conklin as well.

BTW, I love how everyone wants to trade for a goalie.  Trade what or whom?  What do you give up for a backup goalie that largely won’t play?

No, you never trade for a backup unless it’s pure theft.  Not for a backup, never.  That’s poor use of resources…

I got home in time to watch the post game show. John Keating needs to learn some new interview techniques. He pissed Babcock off bad, leading with “Well, you spotted them the first period.”

Bert was so pissed about the results, he wouldn’t even talk about this 300 and 301 career goals. Good for you, Bert.

Keating ended that interview after 2 questions. I think he was afraid of having his head ripped off his shoulders.

This would seem to imply Babcock wasn’t already pissed.  If so, that is a problem.

No, you could tell he was waaay pissed to start with. He had that look in his eye. And then Keating just wades in like some nabob fresh in off the pickle boat, and it was cringeworthy.

Just caught up to the LB.  Was watching the NHL Scoreboard at the Orleans Arena during the Wranglers 4-2 rubber match

win over the Aces and I just about expected that the Wings would play down to the Slicks and fall behind early.

Yeah, when the competition’s sucky, young, or just not expecting anything at all, not really surprising they’d be

losing on the scoreboard.

I warned that the Slicks were gonna be high off the blasting of the Cawks and they were.  They wanted to play a real

team and they got it.

Saw the highlights from our usual youtube heros (thanks paustn31634, awood40, and weallbleedredd; you guys are

awesome - I can never say that enough).  I have to say this one thing about our backup goaltending and I said it so

often last year:

JMAC.TRACKING.THAT.SHIT.

Whatever.  At least, it’s a point and we conclude our road trip in PHX on Monday.  Win that and we have a lot to

forward to coming home.  Homer’s 1,000th career games as a Red Wings player is coming up real soon.
