The Detroit Red Wings are trying to do something they have not done in six weeks: Win consecutive games.
They host the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday, still pumped from what Dylan Larkin described as a “statement game” victory at Minnesota. The Wings did many good things in beating the Wild, 5-2, Saturday, from starting well, to traffic at the net, to playing fast all game. They never let up. They showed they can close out a game, and that was an especially important facet to prove to themselves.
“In Minnesota, that was our best third period of hockey all year,” Larkin said after Monday’s practice. “Us having that feeling now, and the confidence, there’s no reason why we can’t play like that every third period.
“We’ve been in stretches where we’ve had tough times winning games and then we win one and feel good about our game, and we come out the next several and lose. It’s hard to get momentum when you are winning one and then losing a couple. We all know in here we need to go on a good run and have a good stretch where we are winning games consistently.”
