Season Outlook For Patrik Nemeth

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

2019-20 outlook: Nemeth essentially replaces the retired Niklas Kronwall. He’s strictly a stay-at-home defensive defenseman who’ll block shots and be among the team leaders in penalty-killing minutes and won’t provide much offense.

A left-handed shooter, he is slotted to play on one of the top two pairings, with a more offensive-minded right-handed shooter, either Mike Green or Filip Hronek.

His role diminished a bit last season in Colorado, where he logged less ice time and was a healthy scratch for most of the second playoff round. But he figures to log around 20 minutes a game with the Red Wings.

Quotable: “He’s a big, strong, solid, defensive defenseman. He kills penalties well, he defends well, he’s a heavy body and we felt whether playing with Mike Green or Filip Hronek, he’s going to be a very good partner for that type of player, a puck-mover, offensive right-handed shot. It was important to bring in a defenseman that can play now on the left side and help us in the future as well.” – GM Steve Yzerman.

In once related Detroit news.

I don’t know why, but the KHL started sending me a weekly newsletter, today this was included.

Best forward: Teemu Pulkkinen (Dinamo Minsk), who scored four goals (best performance of the week) and posted an assist in four games last week, including three road matches. Dinamo’s Finn forward scored at least a goal in each of the four games. Pulkkinen has also had seventeen shots on goal (best performance of the week).

Strange that Nemeth is to us consider a top 4…and couldnt crack the Avs line-up in the playoffs last season.

Do we really need this guy ?

Id say yes only if it doesnt interfer with the progress of Hicketts, Kaski, Cholo.

It’s only strange if you forget that Detroit is one of the worst teams in the league with one of the VERY worst D rosters.

Do we really need this guy ?

Is that a real question?

Yes it is..

We need to prepare our future not patch up roster with a so called top 4…if they would have said “Nemeth is depth” then i would have been all for it..
