Report- Wings Have Interest In Mark Hunter

via Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,

Mark Hunter will have at least two options available when mid-July hits and he’s available to join another NHL team. Lamoriello has interest in him with the Islanders. But word around now is that Detroit GM Ken Holland would be able to offer Hunter the same job he had in Toronto with a promise of being the next GM of the Red Wings. Holland, apparently, has serious interest in being involved with the Seattle expansion team, which would open the door for Hunter.

Do remember about a year ago Simmons wrote Holland was almost a lock to replace Lamoriello in Toronto.

Still, this would be a decent move

I’d love for it to be true, but I’m doubtful it is.

#1 problem is the source. Noted Toronto ass clown Simmons got the scoop? I don’t buy that for a second.

If The Athletic or most any of the Detroit writers had this story I’d be more inclined to believe it.

This would be a smart move for Illitch and Holland, which is why it’s most likely absolute BS.

I looked up some info and an article suggested that because of his contact that it was likely he could not join another NHL team until after the 2018 draft.

Correct RGEP, the Leafs did not want him involved with helping another team in the draft.

So there will be expansion into Seattle after all?

Back from the dead SYF?  We haven’t made the playoffs since you stopped sending game day hotties brother.

As much as they’ve been a promote within club layely.. I have a hard time seeing them bring in Hunter to take over.  I think Drapes is the next GM.

there’s too many layers of rumours for me, here…

i do hope seattle gets a franchise, however.

I have heard from more than a few people about Holland’s interest in Seattle.  It’s close to his summer home in Kelowna, BC, where he wants to retire.  My issue though is that he should be mandated to take a bunch of his awful, bloated contracts with him out the door.

That’d be perfect, hang a bunch of bad contracts on our necks and leave.  Must be why he always said he’d worry about those contracts in 5 or 6 years.  He wont be here.  Slick.

I wonder if Simmons’ source for this rumour is the same child of a co-worker who was his source for the Phil Kessel hot dog story.

Morris Dalla Costa at the Toronto Sun,

Mark Hunter deserves a chance to be a general manager with a National Hockey League team.

Whether he succeeds or fails at the job is Hunter’s to determine, but rest assured a team would get more than its money’s worth with Hunter.

The former assistant general manager for the Toronto Maple Leafs parted ways with the Leafs several weeks ago when the organization named Kyle Dubas as its general manager.

Hunter would have loved a shot at doing the job, but he didn’t get it and has moved on.
