Remembering Hockeytown Todd

Updated with Paypal info below.

Over the last few days, we've been hearing from Todd Sorensen's family.  They were aware of the affection Todd had for all of you, but probably didn't know the extent to which he affected his "fake friends".    They've learned that the last few days, reading your comments on this post. Todd's wishes were this: no funeral, no memorial, not even an obituary in the paper or anywhere else.

None of you should be surprised by that.

His response to the outpouring of love, respect, prayers and thanks would surely be:  Right back at ya.

That's what Tom Faulkner, a friend of the Sorensen family said, and it sounds just like HTT.

And he also said this: if we want to do something he'd approve of? Throw him a wake.

Now we're talking.  More to follow in the coming months. For now? From Todd's daughter...

I knew he loved hockey, but I didn't realize how much people respected him and his knowledge.
Please let your bloggers know how much the family appreciates everything they wrote.

Good job, 19.  As always.  Any donations will to the college funds set up for Todd's grandchildren.  You can send them here:

Thanks again Master Chief for showing that a bunch of reprobates can also be one of the classiest blogs out in the fake universe.

Just like Gramps to want no fussing or anything else done on his behalf.

And a wake we shall have.

You all know the difference between a Polish or Irish wedding and a wake?

Thanks, Chief, I just got some internet access and have been in touch with Leslie this evening.  She also mentioned donating to Todd’s grandkids’ college fund and Todd’s dislike of hospitals.

If there is a Paypal account, I will update everyone on the details.

Chief, VooX - Thanks!, men.

... and another ‘stick tap’ for Gramps.

May the grandkids have fond memories for a long time, through college and beyond.

From Leslie:

I am not sure where all of your bloggers are from or reside, however, our family will be having a party in Todd’s honor on Sunday, August 18th at 2:00 pm at The Tavern on the Main in Clawson.  You are all invited.  Please pass this on to your “18”.

Thank you.

That’s awesome of the family to do that. I wish I could be there. And Todd’s way of going out without all the fuss but with a party, that’s the way it should be.

I would like to say something though about the “18”, though. Chief once said, and I’m quoting this loosely, “There are 19. There always have been and always will, regardless of how few or how many of us there are.” Even though Todd has passed, he is and will always be part of the 19. So there are 19, now and always.

Damn.  I check out for a few weeks only to come back to this very sad news.  So sorry to hear this.

In the early days, before I ever posted a thing on here, HTT was always one of the bright lights on this site.  A little gruff, occasionally abrupt, but the observations and insights he offered always had the unmistakable feel of coming from a “hockey lifer”.  Hence the reverence and credibility among the 19.

The mantra “injuries and officiating” clearly lives on in all of us.  It’s not difficult to imagine what a legacy he must have left to his family.  My best wishes to those he left behind.

This is still crushing…days after his passing.  Feels like I’m missing war stories from the old gent.

People can say what they want about this place, from stem to stern the 19 are top shelf.
I will cherish the memory of meeting Todd, having a pregame beer with Todd & his brother.
