Quotes And Notes- Tampa Bay Lightning And The Detroit Red Wings

11/09/2014 at 9:40am EST

First off a few quotes from two of the injured Wings...

"I did everything I can off the ice to get back healthy," Weiss said. "Last few days felt really good, so seemed to turn the corner again."

"I don't know how long it's going to take so I'm just going to take it step-by-step and listen to all the advice they give me and do all the rehab and then we'll see when I get back," Gustavsson said.

Then we have this dandy via Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times,

Valtteri Filppula (above) is the only Lightning player to have been a teammate of GM Steve Yzerman; they were with the Red Wings. And the Finnish center will never forget the first time he met Yzerman, getting an immediate taste of the Hall of Famer's sense of humor.

"It wasn't really a conversation. I didn't say anything; I was just listening," Filppula said. "He said, 'I never thought I'd play for so long that I'd have to play with a Fin.' "

Filppula smiled. "Later, I found out it was a joke, so I was happy about that."

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
