The Emperor pointed us to a ditty this morning that shows Tick Tock is on the hunt for a "veteran defenseman". Actually, he's probably already bagged him but is waiting the normal Holland amount of time to announce the deal.
Who is it? No clue. Chris Campoli's being tossed around.
And that's just not good.
Campoli's a nice kid (multiple humanitarian awards) who can move the puck. Chicago dug him in 2011. But he's an unsigned UFA defenseman and this is a league that is absolutely desperate across the board for d-men. Yet...he's unsigned.
But we'd take him because we've lost Rafalski, Stuart, Lidstrom over the last two years and essentially replaced them with potential-laden rookies and bags of shit like Quiet...I'm Watching Twilight.
So Fredo's down. Big E can't stay upright. Shit, we almost lost Smith last night too...'member?
And now a "veteran defenseman" like Campoli is the answer? The desperate solution? Sure. No. The answer was Ryan Suter. I'm just sayin'. But that was so long ago, wasn't it? The answer was Garrison. The answer was Salo or the answer was Carle.
The "answer" is most definitely not Campoli or his like.
Now for the question. Kenny? What the HELL have you been doing the last three years? Was Rafalski a surprise? Maybe. But Stuart wasn't and Lidstrom wasn't. Trade deadlines have come and gone. Free agency has been a consistent refrain: money to spend, holes to fill. And stagnation is all we've had to show for it.
Now? This. I like Lashoff and I like Smith. I think they'll be good NHL players. But there is no reason this team should have ever reached a point where we're literally discussing bringing back Andres Lilja or signing an unsigned Chris Camfuchingpoli.
And Quit Trying To Pretend I'm Any Good is our big "deal" of the last two years, a first rounder for that swill? Shiiiitttttt. He is an absolute waste and will go down as the biggest whipping boy A2Y has ever seen. Bobby Lang? Not even close. And...a former Dive. Do NOT forget that.
Tick Tock Kenny. Tick...Tock. Not Campoli. Not Lilja. It's time to make a deal big boy. A real Detroit Red Wing, shake the foundations DEAL. Either that or let's not kid ourselves. Start shedding salary now. Bring up Gus and Tatar. Hell. Bring up Mrazek and see what he can do too. If we're going to re-build, then let's get to it. But don't try and put a happy face on this disgusting vegan sandwich of a blue line. Fix it and fix it right or blow some shit up.
