Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,

The Hurricanes took it to the Wings at the start, forcing them to chase them around Detroit’s zone while Jimmy Howard averaged a save a minute. The Wings, for all their speed, couldn’t catch the Hurricanes, and that led to a lopsided shot total. It was 9-0 when Dylan Larkin was called for tripping at 8:53, 11-0 when the penalty had been killed, and 14-0 soon after. It was rookie defenseman Dennis Cholowski who finally succeeded in registering a shot on Mrazek, after going coast-to-coast. Fans greeted the shot with a loud cheer with an undertone of derisiveness. Nick Jensen sprang Justin Abdelkader for a breakaway soon after, but Abdelkader basically tapped the puck straight into Mrazek’s stick.

Justin Faulk scored on a power play at 18:25, part of a 20-shot barrage in the first period by the Hurricanes. The Wings had six shots on net.

For a team that had just been outplayed for an entire period, the Wings did not push back in the second period. The Hurricanes continued their rapid-fire approach, running up an 8-1 advantage. The Wings got their second shot of the period at 6:13, on a weak Thomas Vanek slap shot from the top of the right circle.

It’s been a long time since i’ve seen a domination like this against us…

And why wear white ? Don’t we need all the Tools for us when we play home ?  Coming back from a road trip its red we should have wear…

We couldnt touch the puck for 45 minutes, then it got better.

and why play Abby 16 minutes…same as AA who is much more Dangerous ? Only our beautiful coach now…

Of course we can’t blame the coach for sending a bunch of players not ready to compete…..yeah right..

I was at that horrible game. Mrazek looked like he dozed off a few times.  smirk

Late in the second Micky reminisced about Skinner that sometimes you just need to make a change… , and I thought yeah Micky, yeah… sometimes you just have to make a change.
Sometimes I get scared that Blashill will still be here through the year and maybe even get a new contract, but then I watch the game and sleep easier.

The guys are confused and have no cohesion because of constant line juggling? Bag skate em! That’ll fix it!

It’s clear he isn’t getting through to the team. They either can’t or don’t want to play his system, and he only makes things worse juggling the lines constantly. Can’t develop players and now they’ve got motivation problems. His “process” is bs, the fish is rotting from the head.

I know this year is going to be ugly, but if there’s no learning and no growth then it’s wanted time. Better figure out how to get these guys motivated and ready. 12 Fu(#ing minutes before their first shot on goal. Solid stuff.

Paul Woods said last night during the broadcast that blashill has broke the record by a mile for line combinations per game.
I haven’t heard him be critical like that ever. He pretty much tows the company line without deviation.

Caught my first game at The Joe 2.0.
That facility is unreal. Absolutely gorgeous.
But it’s nice to see that despite the new digs, some things don’t change - like Wings fans showing up halfway thru the 1st period.
Or the house DJ playing theme music for anything that occurs on the ice.

The game itself was a stinker. I didn’t notice Vanek all night. So glad he’s back.
I did notice Bertuzzi though. I loved the way he tried to toe-drag the puck around a defender (unsuccessfully) anytime he was close to the net. Especially when there was an open guy, or a shot on net would have sufficed.
Dylan Larkin is awesome though. Such a smooth skater and seemed to make something happen nearly everytime he was on the ice.

I agree with Paul Woods. The line juggling has to stop. Pick a line and see how it works.
What’s the worst that could happen? You get outshot, outplayed and lose? And then we have a better shot at Jack Hughes? The horror!!!

Forgot to add that Michael Rasmussen can’t get sent back to Junior fast enough.
I think he has potential to become an everyday NHLer, but he looked utterly lost out there.
The game is clearly moving too fast for him right now - which is normal for most 19 YO’s at this level.

Speaking of 19YO’s, Dennis Cholowski is awesome. I think he could be the Wings best dman right now.
