Projecting The Lines

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

Here is a look at the Red Wings' projected season-opening roster, with potential line combinations and defense pairings.

First line
LW: Tyler Bertuzzi, C: Dylan Larkin, RW: Anthony Mantha

Blashill hasn’t played the team’s top three forwards together often, wanting to spread the wealth over the top two lines, but the Red Wings might have more depth now to keep the trio together for longer stretches. They have finished with a flurry in each of the past two seasons. In the final 10 games of 2019-20, the three combined for 11 goals and 22 assists.

Second line
LW: Robby Fabbri, C: Vladislav Namestnikov, RW: Bobby Ryan

These line combinations look much better to me than those ones hinted at a few weeks ago. One thing they definitely have is more options. I think we could see plenty of changes depending on who performs better and who isn’t getting the job done. But Blashill needs to find some line combinations and stick to them for more than a couple of shifts.

With a shortened NHL season I expect a lot of the prospects will remain overseas. Zadina and Hronek will almost certainly come back but it wouldn’t surprise me if that is it. When/if the AHL gets going will determine the fate of some.

I’m sorry but Filip Zadina isn’t playing on the 3rd line! Even though I can definitely see Blashcock doing that to Zadina. If you don’t want Zadina to play in the top 6, then you shouldn’t be a coach in the NHL. I tired of hearing that you have to work your way through the line-up! Zadina has been outstanding so far playing for the Czech Republic. Zadina doesn’t have much to prove anything to anyone anymore. It’s time to get on board with that!
