Patrik Nemeth Could Help The Winnipeg Jets

from Ken Wieble of Sportsnet,

So while the potential for a bigger-name addition remains at the top of the wish list for Cheveldayoff, let’s take a closer look at several under-the-radar candidates who could end up on the Jets’ radar during the coming week:

D Patrik Nemeth, Detroit Red Wings

2020-21 stats: 39 GP, 2 G, 6 A, 8 P, 14 PIM, 18:32 TOI
Age: 29
Contract status: $3 million AAV, pending UFA
The skinny: A sturdy defender at six-foot-three and 228 pounds, the Jets would be familiar with Nemeth from his time in the Central Division with the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars. Some of his underlying numbers need improvement, but he could provide a valuable insurance policy.

from Max Bultman of The Athletic,

Because of his pedigree as the sixth pick in 2018, it can be easy to forget that Zadina is in his first season as a full-time NHLer, still just 21 years old and learning by the day. So much has been expected of him since the moment he first donned a Red Wings jersey.

But as Zadina continues to gain experience in Detroit, he’s taking steps toward becoming a two-way difference-maker.

“I think on a pretty consistent basis he’s tried to do it right,” coach Jeff Blashill said last week. “He’s tried to compete hard, he’s tried to be accountable, play from the right side of the puck, not cheat for offense. The games where he’s done either one of those — either not been hard enough on the puck or started to cheat for offense — we’ve showed him and he’s corrected it, which is a great sign, especially for a young player. He’s very coachable that way.

“I think he’s gotten more dangerous as the year’s gone along. I think he’s made more plays, he’s been more dangerous with the puck. Not just from a scoring aspect, but with the puck. … I think as he continues to work on being that complete player and then gets more dangerous, that’s when you have a really good winning-type hockey player.”

Some of that has been evident since the start of training camp, when Zadina’s puck hounding was noticeable, and translated rather quickly into the regular season — including this forecheck, steal and assist to Bobby Ryan.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
