No Matter How Soft And Innocent Those Blue Eyes May Be? Don’t Trust Them or Her

Bullet Bob Seger was a young man in the early 70's. He, because he felt change would do him good, headed west.  It was there that his world crumbled when he put a lot of stock into some surface emotions.  Yes, I know.  Young, dumb and full of...enthusiasm.  She swindled him though.  She led him on and then crushed his soul.

But don't blame her. Oh no.

She may have been a conniving skank, but BB fell for it. The power of the P, I tell you.

So one morning Seger woke up alone and realized life would be better with a harder edge.

Which leads us to Game 2.  A harder edged Wing team, led by a psychopath, or at least complemented by one.  They posed little threat in Game 1, from what Gary would let me see.  One power play goal and minimal chances even strength.  And that's why we absolutely hate the playoffs.  Four straight games of dynamic offense.  Four straight games that brought hope into our lives, then one little episode to remind us that hope isn't a plan it's just a wish.

So the plan...the plan has to be harder. Edgier. Tougher. Meaner.  And as a result, more chances. More shooting. More stress for the Swiss kid.  How would you handle the pressure if a toothless serial killer was all up in your grill, his ass wagging, stick tormenting, heaving and rumbling.

Todd Bertuzzi will not win this game for us, but he poses a threat. And we need threats.

It's a Live Blog, bitches.

DeKeyser might need surgery on his thumb. In any event, he said he is done for the postseason. He was injured during a collision with Kyle Palmieri in the third period.

Bum luck.

Lashoff to take his place.

But thats just it monkey, you don’t have to be a #1 seed to get a cupcake team like the Islanders, this is the East we’re talking about, A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I’m talking about a little place called the Eastern Conference.

Bear with me here an dyes, another wall-o’-text.  So… I’ve started rethinking some things in terms of this Wings team.

At the deadline I was a huge, huge backer of the need to get a 1st pairing d-man.  It seemed obvious, and the easiest way to correct the woes because guys were merely playing over their heads a bit, so bump everyone on the blueline down a slot and they fall more where they belong.

I’m not so sure about that now.
I’m not even sure landing Ryan Suter would have been the big boost and help we thought.

I alluded to this a little in the one thread over on Malik’s site arguing about Z and Franzen, but… the more I really look back at the regular season and now the playoffs, the more I think that Kenny Holland had the misfortune and/or just picked a bad year to try to retool on the fly.  While Kenny failed this offseason for sure, we’ve also now seen that the kids ARE in fact alright, both the defensive ones and the forwards, and they’ve grown.

Say what you will though with playing overseas or whatever, but with no camp or preseason basically it was a hell of a time to try to bring kids in and to retool with some other new faces as well.  The season-ending spurt coincided with right around what would normally be the halfway point of a normal season.  It really maybe *has* taken this long for things to come together for the team.  Some other teams who aren’t in a similar circumstance wouldn’t have had to go through that I guess because of little turnover on the team.

I then look at Suter’s really slow start in Minny and wonder if he would have just gone through a similar thing anywhere else but Nashville, such as Detroit?  New team, after a lockout, slow start…?

Maybe Kenny WASN’T kidding when he said he “liked our team” and knew they just needed some time.  Or maybe he was blowing smoke and has just gotten lucky, I dunno’.

What do you guys think though?  Do you think Suter would have made a real tangible difference to this team?  Or do you think that maybe we would have gone through all this anyways because it was what this remade team had to go through, and the injuries were inevitable as well?

It’s been one weird season for sure.

I swear…some folks would second, nah maybe a third & fourth, guess on cooking a one minute egg. Jeebus on a pogo stick…..

I BELIEVE that my team is tied 1-1 in the Stanley Fauxing Cup Playoffs…bitches.

Let’s Go Red Wings !!!!!

He gave the coach good pieces to work with and the coach did good work with them.
