Need A Pacifier?  Bullet Bob’s Getting Something Even Better

I'm not sure how many games with  Columbus are left, and I guarantee I won't be looking it up, but Gary wants you to know he'll suspend any and all future BJ-related events if you appear to enjoy them too much. He has that kind of power and don't you forget it.

Tonite is a trap game for our beloved, most likely very tired, Red Wings.

James Tiberius Howard took a stick to the sack last night and said...

"It took about 10 minutes for it to settle down."

Wait until you're older Jimmah.  That dilemma won't seem like such a problem.

Especially when there's BJs involved, eh?  Boom.

It's a Live Blog, bitches.

Good. Fuching. God.

So let me get this right, we’ve got three guys that can score, two guys that can hit, one guy that can hit and fight aaaannnnnddddddd, a few guys prancing about and earning a paycheck?

At what point do you tank the year for a draft pick? Start shouting Babs.

aWESOME, Thetesttube scores short-handed.

Quite a poor showing this evening. They should put McCollum in for the last 5 minutes.

When all is said and done, our boys record on the second night of back to back games won’t be a whole lot different than anyone else in the league.

Get used to it. Weren’t we playing St. Lose on fresh legs Friday, while they played the night before?

Our boys aren’t as good as they looked Friday night, and they aren’t as bad as they looked last night.

Thanks, Gary. I hope you get nut cancer.

Wings call up goalie Mrazek and forward Tatar Tots.  Jimmy getting a rest, I get.  Maybe they are trying to jump start the bottom six?

Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 02/03/13 at 08:30 PM ET

RWBill's avatar

Without any reported forward injuries you have to assume they are going to sit one of the bottom six forwards, who have produced a grand total of one assist in eight games.

Tatar won’t be brought up to be a healthy scratch, and it doesn’t make sense to bring him up to play on the fourth line.  They could play him on a top two line and move Fil to center the third line…. With some body….  I think Eaves has a great shot and offensive upside potential if paired with other offensive minded players, and not all that time on the PK like 8 penalties a game, very uncharacteristic Wings.
< still crickets >

If they don’t show any offensive improvement will they sack several of the third-fourth line gaggle and bring up several forwards from GR?... As if desperate for the playoffs and nothing to lose, or worse, just too far out of number eight spot and need to see who in the farm system can play at this level?

In my head, which is a dark and disturbed place, ideally we would have three lines of such competent and dangerous offensive talent so that our fourth line would be a very strong Helm - Abdelkader - Tootoo. Right now these guys keep filling the third line.

I am sorry for Danny Cleary who played in such pain all last year that he couldn’t walk without limping, they say.  He apparently had a good rehab, but just does not look like he’s fitting.  When Sammy is healthy do you stick him back in there somewhere?  Didn’t look effective at all either.

Someone is paid to keep the big picture in mind and decisions shouldn’t be too drastic, but there are only 40 games left this season and we have had difficulty scoring the last two playoffs before this, it isn’t a new problem.

One assist in eight games from the bottom six, that’s 48 man-games, one assist.  Defending just two lines is easy for the better, playoff-run quality teams to do.

Daniel Cleary-Justin Abdelakder-Todd Bertuzzi

Drew Miller-Cory Emmerton-Jorin Tootoo

Do you now see more production in the bottom six?

Me neither.  Although Abdelkader and Bertuzzi had some chemistry together before, but was it the end of the 2011 season??  Who was their line mate, Filppula?

I do agree with putting whichever high scoring GR forward they bring up on the second line in this scenario.

Posted by RWBill from Brush Street cruising with Super Creepy Rob Lowe. on 02/04/13 at 02:36 PM ET

Oh yeah, and it’s EAVES working in, not Miller, as the potential healthy scratch.

Tatar skated on a line with Pavel Datsyuk and Valtteri Filppula, as Todd Bertuzzi was moved to the third line, but Babcock said. “I don’t know what he’s going to do tomorrow. He’s got some ability, he’s scored some goals (19 goals in 44 games with the Griffins). He’s fearless. Maybe he can help us. We’re going to watch and see.’‘

“He’s fearless”

Flashback to the best Babcock quote of the abbreviated 2012 playoffs, I believe directed at a non-producing Mule.

“You have to make your own space.  If you want to play in open space, go play in another league.”
