Michael Rasmussen Placed On LTIR And Sent To Grand Rapids For Conditioning

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today placed center Michael Rasmussen on long-term injured reserve retroactive to Jan. 4 and assigned him to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins for conditioning.

Rasmussen has skated in 41 games as a rookie with the Red Wings in 2018-19, totaling 13 points (6-7-13) and 19 penalty minutes. The 19-year-old forward was one of five Red Wings to make their NHL debut on Oct. 4 vs. Columbus and went on to record his first NHL point on Oct. 8 at Anaheim and score his first goal on Oct. 30 at Columbus. The Surrey, British Columbia, native became the sixth teenager in Detroit’s franchise history to score in three-straight games when he did so from Nov. 13-17. Rasmussen is tied for second on the Red Wings with three power-play goals, which is also tied for sixth among NHL rookies.

Ansar Khan tweet,

Rasmussen can play three games with @griffinshockey before #RedWings would need to apply for an extension of the stint.  GR plays at Texas tomorrow and San Antonio on Friday.

This is a great thing for him IMHO.  Still no regrets DET kept him up, because juniors would have been worthless for him.

But a handful of AHL games might do wonders for him.

Agree with Primis.  Will be interested to see how Rasmussen compares to Zadina.  And it would be great if Rasmussen added a couple of pounds of upper body muscle during his injury stint.

He must of hurt his hamstring standing for his net front presence position. Blashill has made him a one dimensional player. He scored most his goals from the slot in the Juniors:

I’m pretty sure that’s Blashill’s motto.
