Live From BubbaKahn(!)....Surrender To The Stress

If you’d forgotten, now’s the time to recall every bit of it.  Every bone job from Gary’s officials.  Every missed open net. Every center ice goal, good and bad.  Now’s the time to remember the mangled faces, ankles, eyes and the punishment levied on others who deserved it, like Pronger.

Back into the breach, my friends.  Right back to the place we hate the most.

Yes.  Bubba’s favored. Got it.  But, it’s not about Nashville. Not really.  If the Wings play the way they can, they win.  If they don’t, they lose.  If Nashville plays their best, it won’t matter if Detroit does too.  Wings win.

There is nothing to like about the playoffs. Oh, yes. There are isolated pockets of happiness. But never relief. Not until June, and even then just when you think the ultimate is right…there.  34.7 seconds turns into an absolute eternity.  The only thing one win in the playoffs means, unless it’s #16, is that the stress level will be slightly lower for the next 24 hours.  And a loss is a wrecking ball right to forehead. Again and again and again.  A playoff loss is so indescribably bad.  It’s so bad that when it’s the 4th loss in a series, you almost don’t mind it because it means you won’t have to experience any more of those MOTHERFUCHING losses again for a long, long time.

If you aren’t a Red Wing fan, don’t sit there and nod your head like you know what I’m talking about. None of you do. Because none of you have gone through it every year for 22 consecutive seasons.  Better yet, nobody but us has been through the horrific fiery stress of loving a team that could realistically win it all for 17 consecutive years.

This is the 17th straight postseason that every one of us has known the Wings can win it with a couple bounces, some decent health and a few officials who won’t bend us over more than ten or twelve times.

Nobody can say that. Nobody but us.

But, Holy Hell, with those expectations comes stress and alcoholism, domestic meltdowns, dead pets, fires. We’ve never nailed down the right way to handle these playoffs. Ever.  It’s what makes us, the 19, so damned adorable and special.

So, tonite we begin again.  Underdogs, which is laughable.  It’s funny because all of us have been predicting the worst (including me) because we know that entering this tournament with that frame of mind will make the fall that much easier to handle. That’s a lie, of course. All of it.  We can sit here and type that we think their chances are poor, that Nashville is bigger, more potent on the power play. We can say all that, and we do. But deep down?

Deep down is where the memories are, memories other fans don’t and never will have.  It’s the Brown goals and Murphy coming off the bench, drunkenly weaving on some sort of pseudo breakaway. It’s Datsyuk scoring and scoring when everyone said he couldn’t get it done in the postseason.  It’s Yzerman, that magnificent steed, carrying a city on one leg…five years after McCarty climbed the boards and shook his fist at you seconds after ending the 42-year drought.  It’s Hasek’s dances and Shanny’s open netter, Hull’s one-timer and Jesus if it isn’t Ozzie doing it twice.  It’s a wheelchair and a slow lap and it’s Scotty on skates.

Who has those memories going for them?  Nashville fans? St. Louis? San Jose?  Who has that legacy?

We do.  And who the hell says it can’t happen again this year if only they play up to the ability they know rests in that room.

And kids?  If you sneak downstairs tonite and your parents look strange, pained, even overly overjoyed?  Mommy and Daddy are alright.  They just seem a little weird. It’s the playoffs.

This is your Game 1, Round 1 Live Blog, bitches.  Screw Bubba. Screw 11 out of 12 ESPN “experts”. Screw Tootoo and no neck and those assplowers Crisp and Weber. Screw those horns and those ugly shitstained uniforms.  If the Wings play the Wing way the Wings win and that’s law.

16 to 12.

I thought the Preds looked to be the more nervous team. If the Wings would have won this game, a very possible scenario, it would have been a dagger to the Preds. Now, however, they have more confidence. I expect they will play a better game Friday.

They know damn well without those two fluke goals, the type you get once every six months, they would be down one game to none, and those type of goals will not bail their asses out again this series.

Get an early lead Friday, and the doubt creeps back into the Preds collective psyche.

Calm under pressure.

What?  We just watched him have a huge impact on the game.  The Wings got owned in the dot.  What kind of fvcking evidence are you looking for?

Impact, sure. But Gaustad won 12-of-20 faceoffs, 1-of-2 in the 3rd.

That’s way worse than I thought it was.  Weber, Weber.  Gary loves it.

I don’t mind Cleary, he played well, but I think it says a lot when Abby has to slow down to make the 2 on 1 pass,

That’s not fair either. They were both out for something like 50 seconds on the PK chasing around the Preds crazy PP movement before that odd-man rush. Neither of them had any gas left.  In context, I give em both a pass.

Yeah, it’d be nice to get some offense out of him, but with how bad the officiating borked up the flow of the game, I really cant get down on him for not getting many good chances at the net. All that said, he’s still on a very short leash in my book.

Yes.

Only 5 shots on goal after 1 period, plus 14 minutes short handed, finishing with 37 shots on goal.

But Hudler needs to not loaf back on D and leave people alone 5 feet in front of Jimmy for a third goal.

Oh sure.  Stats, shmats.  Seriously, picture him in Emmerton’s spot.  He was one of their best players.

Didn’t Nashville have a #1 pick to give for Gaustad.  We did not.

Holland does his job just fine, thanks.

Nice try.  I appreciate the effort, I really do, but the reason the Wings didn’t have a #1 was because Holland traded that pick for Kyle Quincey.  You just destroyed your own argument.

Weber 2 minutes for roughing at the 20:00 mark of the 3rd period.  No suspension, punishment served.

Fuchin’ unreal.

Make sure to have that ready to post Friday, when Weber is out on the ice for the first shift, as the NHL pretends nothing happened.

If not for two freak bounces, wings win that game.  When are the wings going to get the bounces?  They have been going against them for 2 months now.

I wish this was right, I really do.  I agree they are damning.  I am saying zero chance that he is suspended.  Should be 5 games at least, but it just won’t happen.

Not sure where that stat came from but it’s absolutely wrong.  1-of-2 in the third?Impossible.  Gaustad was on the ice for just about every key faceoff in the third.  He cleanly won the draw to start that five on three (which was key because it really effed up the two man advantage), and then cleanly won the last one with 5.1 seconds left.  No way he was only 1-of-2.

If you look, those 12 were probably all when we really really really needed to win one.

Yeah, maybe I’ll give you that, I am overly mean at times, but it’s that extra gas in the tank that wins you a game right now. Knee or no knee, he’s 33 years old and rolling around slower than my grandma, that needs changing.

I will leave with this.

The trade deadline was February 27.  Gaustad just scored his first goal as a Predator.  A lucky fuching goal at that.  Sure he won some face offs but if he were on the Wings and went a whole month and a half without scoring a goal, we’d be Crucifying Tick Tock over that outrageous signing as well.

Fuch Webber.

Till Friday bitches.

48.1 Illegal Check to the Head – A hit resulting in contact with an opponent’s head where the head is targeted and the principal point of contact is not permitted.

Hmm. What do you think?

Bearing in mind that Weber narrowly avoided suspension at the start of the season for this little beauty: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7RATL5CanY

Any player who incurs a total of two (2) game misconducts under this rule, in either regular League or playoff games, shall be suspended automatically for the next game his team plays. For each subsequent game misconduct penalty the automatic suspension shall be increased by one game.

If he’s out on the first shift on friday, something is seriously, seriously wrong with this league. And if Johnny Errorson ever wanted to redeem himself with me, he’ll be out there on that first shift kicking ass and taking names.

NHL claims to be concerned about player safety, especially head shots.
Multiple blows to the head after the game was over.
That was a deliberate attempt to injure.
Anything less than 3 games is a farce. Five games is deserved.

After last nights game, I am confident we will beat this team. No swagger yet, but the PK of Death moved out of the morgue, and is back on life support. Rinne made some great saves, but I have a hunch that he will be thesecond coming of Breezy circa Phoenix in the playoffs.

We weren’t hitting on all cylinders, but came damn close to making it happen, despite that.

That said, could the 19 just MAYBE lighten up a bit? Seems like half the players, and the entire coaching staff and front office are getting blasted here on a nightly basis. The same ones that served us up a leage record for consecutive home wins this year. The same ones we will be cheering for in June, if injuries and officiating don’t derail us.

I don’t know if it’s been pointed out or not but to all of those loosing their shit over Gaustad, Kyle Quincy was the main reason the Wings second goal happened. If he doesn’t jump into the play and get the shot on net Homer doesn’t score.

Sure Qunicy didn’t win two big draws (How about we place some blame on Pavel for not winning one of those since he’s supposedly really good on the draw rather than assuming P.G. is unbeatable in the dot?) but our add helped cancel out their add’s score.
