Typing as he is talking…

Yzerman, there will be changes in the lineup but with a short preseason it is hard to say what is ahead.

He is hoping non-playoff teams will be allowed to get an early start on training camp

He’s been enjoying the playoffs and looking forward to getting back on the ice.

Kids in GR have the best chance to play with the Wings this season.  He mentioned the usual names in GR. If players are ready for a regular shift in the NHL, then they will play in Detroit, if not, more of the same.

Discussed AHL, still working through the complications but a lot of work to be done.

That’s it, nothing earth shattering.

They kind of over-hyped that…didn’t really have anything “new” for us.

Then again, it’s safe to say Kuklas Korner readers are the most and best informed when it comes to Detroit hockey…..

Wait a minute, are we sure this wasn’t Ken Holland? Can someone examine if they did a face swap?

“Trust the process.”

There.  I said it.

Matt Charboneau of the Detroit News breaks down the conversation more thoroughly than I did.

Tell you what, watching the speed skill and precision of these teams this post season, the wings have a LONNNNGGGGG way to go.  Not to mention the elite of the elite in the game of which we have none, Larkin and Mantha would be 2nd line talent on any of these final 4 teams, maybe 3rd line.

I was hoping maybe 1 more year of this basement dwelling and then we can start to think about getting into the playoffs, but now I almost want another 2 years of suck, at some point a lotto ball has to fall in our favor to bring a star back to this franchise.

I marvel of the level of play, I don’t know if it is truly that much better than it was last year, or if I’m just going from being locked in my house watching old Wings championships, to what’s going on today, but its incredible the amount of talent and vision these guys play with at this pace.

As an aside, regardless of who wins, 2 big takeaways for me this year.

1) Trotz is the best coach hands down, and

2) Nathan Mackinnon is the best player in the world, he’s a step above the league.  Colorado is a legit goalie and like a 2nd pair quality Dman away from being a cup contender each year for the next 5 or so. I would dare to even say a Dynasty if they weren’t in the same division as the young nucks.

You’re absolutely right, MC.  I’d truly be surprised to see us even in a playoff role within the next 5 years.

Yzerman needs to draft another Yzerman to get the momentum rolling again.

He dis say the team will look different.  I imagine hes looking at ways to exploit cap strapped teams and will know better exactly how different the team may look.  With a Krug our D alots MUCH better.  With another solid backstop, our kids have the potential tonactually enjoy hockey.  Im ok losing xlose games but we need to get the games close for guys to really improve.  Columbus didnt take a huge step until Jones hit their lineup, even with some guys who are soing pretty well elseware now.  If we can get the games close our guys will start playing like theyve got a chance and not just out of spite of routs.

Even though hes not a playoff goalie, Id welcome Fluery.  His demeanor is fantastic and hes the type pf veteran leader I think could really help the lockerroom and indivual players vibe.  Hes got an Ozzy quality to him and hes played alongside some greats and is a champion himself.  We could probably even get something for doing vegas the favor.

Hope to see a clever move or two exploiting the flat cap and available space.

Abby to GR.

And, yes, a second keeper who at least keeps games
close and morale high. But not an expensive long-term contract
we’ll regret for someone like Holtby.

Krug would help but if he’s really looking for max term and pay
I’m not sure he’s worth it now or when the team is better,, we have less cap space and his game has significantly declined.

Unless there is consistent improvement it might also be time for a hockey trade
involving Cholowski.

Hopefully Helm will stay healthy and get to go on a nice playoff run in an exchange for a decent pick.

Can I just prod the rationale here rather than simple bloodlust?

If there is no minors next season given covid, I do agree with this.

If there is a league, or they sort out with foreign leagues and others spots for our to play and legitimately progress in their development,  why does this make sense?  Consider…

The games will be condensed, practices will be limited,
The big club will need a 14th forward to rot in the pressbox most nights,  play 1x every 4-5 games due to the condense schedule.
Having a kid on the roster starts their professional contract status.
We do not get full cap relief.
