Abel to Yzerman

King for a Day… Fool for a Lifetime

While there are several issues with the Wings this season, a couple stand out above the rest... and one in particular on the flatli -- I mean, blue line:

Didn't know he had a street in Wisconsin SoCal named after him, did you? Neither did I.

(sticktap to Alan for the picture, and stoney for the correction)

So here we sit, battered, bruised, broken - and if you're like me, soiled - watching our beloved Detroit Red Wings press on through the meatgrinder that is the Western Conference's current Playoff lineup. They've battled through ridiculous injuries, questionable coaching and roster decisions, and generally poor play from those whom better should be expected (I'm looking at you, Quincey, Howard, Cleary, and Samuelsson), and tenuously cling to a Wild Card spot thanks to a couple of surging teams in the East. I don't expect a win tonight. Nor do I expect a win tomorrow. One or two points out of this trip would be nothing short of miraculous at this juncture.

But we'll be here, glued to our televisions, computers, or other devices, gluttons for punishment; 19 in all, from across the globe, and all walks of life. Disagree if you will, argue if you must, but batten down the hatches, because the second half of the season is going to be a test for one and all.

As Kate would say, We're All In.

It's a Live Blog, Bitches.

Not with the refs on the Kings side like this.

Indeed - there was a chance, however slim, until they got involved.

Same old song and dance. Zebra suckage.

Seriously.  Not that Howard would have stopped the shot anyway, but still, for all the years we out up with that shit, you’d think that contact with the goaltender is pretty automatic.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a player held up from making a breakaway get a penalty called on him.

I saw us take the second penalty and got up, knowing what would happen.

I sit back now, and saw my prediction come true.

Only with the help of a terrible penalty call and a non-call on what should have been goalie interference.

If the Wings are out of the playoff picture by the Olympics then, by all means, bring up the kids to start playing for the future.

What’s with eaves and the full face shield? Remnants of that suspension-worthy cross check he received last week?

Posted by CaptainDennisPolonich from The Land of Fake Boobs and Real Nuts on 01/11/14 at 10:46 PM ET

Didn’t you hear?  Eaves had to have his jaw reset.  From the “I didn’t mean it” Winter Classic crosscheck from Lupul.  Good ole joffrey got only the 2 min and a $10K penalty - no suspension.  And oh, BTW, $10K is 1/5th of 1% of his salary.  Bastardo.

Just what Eaves needed after his concussion issues.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y.
