Jussi’s trying to play for every NHL team.

Who tried and didn’t make it last year when Booth did?

I would guess that Jussi will have a great camp and will be good in preseason (because he will be actually playing for a job) and will earn a contract and will take a young player spot in the lineup.

This seems…well odd to say the least, especially this close to camp. This just seems like a c.y.a. move in case of another major injury. I have a hard time believing he’ll take a spot.

You’re thinking of Parenteau

This has to be for the 8 veteran preseason rule, right?

Here’s the deal: I’m cool with signing him as long as he’s a 13th/14th forward with Witkowski. You don’t want to put youth in those spots because it could hinder their development. If Jussi is signed to a contract, then this means that either one less forward prospect makes the team, or a decision will be made on Frk, who makes $1.05m this season. If Jussi signs for less than that, it gives Holland a tiny amount of wiggle room after moving Frk.

Not saying I agree with the decisions that put Detroit in this cap predicament. But I understand the logic of this PTO. Frk is on notice.

Jokinen on why he signed a PTO with the Wings, but it is in Finnish.

That’s a good point.

I don’t care how good he looks. If he takes a spot that could be filled by Zadina or Ras, I’ll be livid.

I guess one could say he covers for the situation where Frk or Witkowski (probably 13th/14th forwards) gets hurt because you won’t want a young guy in those roles. But, wasn’t that what Terry was signed for?

Frk is on notice.

Sure he is.

Fix-It and Steve nailed it.

The only issue with this comes to:
He makes the team as a 14th forward, injuries come, then they put justin in instead of trying a kid for am extended look.

But realistically? He is a preseason stand in.

HSJ of the Detroit Free Press,

General manager Ken Holland said Tuesday that Jussi Jokinen, a 35-year-old veteran of nine NHL teams, will be at training camp when it begins Friday.

“He played for Dan Bylsma, asked for a tryout,” Holland said. “He understands the situation, but we will play him in some preseason games.

“Over the next month, we want to see where the young players are, and then we’ll assess our team.”

Maybe Holland is rebuilding with over 30 castoffs?  Do s sound like KH fell off his chair or needs Jussi to play with the minimum of 8 Vets required on the roster for pre season games and rest hurting Vets. Preseason fodder?

KH can still play the prospects .  Nah makes too much sense

Maybe Holland is rebuilding with over 30 castoffs?

Why change the method that’s worked for him for 20 years?

Sure, in the past those over 30 guys were Brett f*cking Hull and Luc f*cking Robitaille, not David Booth and Jussi Jokinen, but why should that matter?
