CapFriendly numbers on Ericsson.

He is in his last year of his contract which pays $4.250M.

Friedman lists all the waivers today, Sbisa is signing with the Ducks but he has to clear waivers in case you were wondering.

Nobody will claim him, but it’s good to see Yzerman’s first non KH type of move

Interesting.  Can’t see him going down to GR, and he’s unlikely to get claimed so… I wonder if this really means anything aside from Yzerman doing it just to see.

Some talk he was waived to go to GR for a conditioning stint, but I don’t think he needs to clear waivers for that.

Wow.  Ummm.

I thought you couldn’t be waived if on IR.  Isn’t he on IR, or am I mis-remembering the rule?

BTW, if Edmonton claims him, I’ll chug a fifth of Malort.

via Ansar Khan of Mlive,

Ericsson has been dealing with a chronically bad hip, which limited him to 52 games last season (three goals, two assists, minus-10 rating).

The 13-year NHL veteran has appeared in 662 games, picking up 27 goals and 98 assists.

Ericsson is in the final year of his contract at a $4.25 million cap hit. If he’s assigned to the Griffins, only $1.05 million of his salary comes off the cap.

Wow. Surprising but promising.

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Ericsson practiced Monday, and was optimistic he’d be able to play soon. He hasn’t played since injuring himself in March against the Montreal Canadiens.

‘I do feel close now,” Ericsson said. “I was able to skate every day during the (recently completed) road trip here with the guys, and afterward put my time in (the weight room), so I’m getting close.”

With the insertion of young defensemen Filip Hronek and Dennis Cholowski into the lineup, and the progress of Madison Bowey, plus several young defensemen in the AHL (Moritz Seider, Oliwer Kaski), Ericsson’s position had grown tenuous at best.
