Joe Veleno On Alexis Lafreniere

from Peter J. Wallner of Mlive,

Who knows how the second half of the NHL season plays out or how the ping pongs will fall in the NHL draft, but if the Detroit Red Wings land the first pick, Joe Veleno is with others on the Alexis Lafreniere bandwagon....

"Obviously, he'd be happy wherever he goes," Veleno said. "I guess Detroit has some high chances of getting that first pick and he'd be real excited to come here.

"Obviously, we played together and it'd be nice to be on the same team again."...

"He's an unbelievable player but he's an even better person," Veleno said. "Real humble. Funny character. Just relaxed in the locker room and I think guys will like him a lot."...

"This year at World Juniors our families kind of got close to each other," he said, noting they were the only French players on the team. "We spent a lot of time together and he's a real good kid."

He called Lafreniere "a game changer."

Obviously you are the only one that posted about the article.

Joe and Alexis have played a lot for the past 2 years.  Alxis is the current #1 pick, the rest of the top 3 were no where near him.  There are some clubs who roll the dice on a long shot. I haven’t figured out who to compare him to. The easy stuff, for his age he plays a 200’, plays physical, good skater, he thinks the game and his defenders get caught guessing what he is going to do.

He looks one way but doesn’t have to look back to his options, great shot..he is just different.
For what ever reason Joe and Alexis have played well together the last 2 years.  That does say something about Joe’s hockey skills. I think Joe was a steal at #30 in his draft year.

I sort of like going with the best player in the top 3 or 4 but with “Tricky” StevieY, who knows. I would rarely take a goalie in the top 6 of the 1st round.  The top Dman in the top 3 didn’t have a great Jrs tournament, seemed like a Pylon but again he is in the top 3 for a reason.

I will add McIssac playing D for the Canadians, was a giveaway machine. But again he is behind in his development due to injuries and he was still selected for the Cdn team this year.

Again it is hard to tell in a short tournament with any player.

I would be very happy to see Alexis in a Wings Jersey but Bettman will try and foil that idea and StevieY will have some surprises. Like Seider who played very high mins and looked very good.

Anyway, carry one with your English Language tutorial, LOL

I’d love to see the two of em on the same line together. They’re both amazing players.

We just have to get that first pick. That’ll be the hard part, because at that point, it’s all up to randomness.

How about “trades are hard” or “I like our team.”

That’ll be the hard part, because at that point, it’s all up to randomness.

It’s not random. It’s a weighted lottery. Keep losing and the Wings have the best chance to win it at around 18.5%. If you want to see the difference in practice use this website HERE
