It’s A Tattle-Tale Sound We’re Not Used To Hearing…So Give Us A Break

With only three days left until Gary's playoffs begin, the Wings sit in 9th place in the Western Conference.  Thankfully, that's bound to change tonite because they're destined for two points.  Destined, I say.

Why?

Because Yackub Kindle is playing.  Yackub,. as you're aware, was the 19th overall pick in 2005 and he's been lighting it up since then boy.

He was selected before the likes of TJ Oshie, Home Keys, Paul Stastny, Kris Lefriggingtang, Jonathan Quick, Keith Yandle and Darren by god Helm (113 picks after Kindle). There are more.  And it's ugly.

Brian Lashoff wasn't drafted nearly as high as Yackub. In fact, he wasn't drafted at all so that's kinda low according to A2Y interns and pharmacists in Dearborn.

But Lashoff has been very good.  Kindle has never shown us anything than an ounce over jack squat and rarely even that.

So this is a confused Live Blog, and a little bitter. Because I just don't get it.  It's not just the Yackub start tonite, or even his draft in '05.  We get it.  Draft picks are never sure things. If they were we certainly wouldn't have given away a first rounder for the likes of Quacks Like A Duck but Dives Like An Av.

Tick Tock.  Tick. Tock.  What are you doing? Why are you saying things like this...

"Twenty games," he said during a pregame chat Friday. "Once you get to 20 games, you'll have a read of what you've got, where we fit."

George showed that to us today and that's crazy talk.  So...after 41 games of a season not wrecked by a midget ball-in-the-mouth commissioner, that's when you'd wait to evaluate the team?  Or after 35? C'mon.

If Kenny's serious about winning this year, and he's not and he hasn't been since last trade deadline when he did absolutely nothing but give away a first-rounder in exchange for a whining little girl who still complains about not getting to wear a ring he didn't earn, then he'd be evaluating right frigging now. He'd be looking for a deal and he wouldn't be hauling out the same, crusty, tired bullshit excuses.

..if you're looking to do something, you can only do something if you have a partner.

Uh huh.  We've heard it.  Meanwhile...Lashoff sits and Kindle plays.  For reasons unknown to anyone.  You know, Nick Lidstrom aged as we all do for the last four years of his career.  He came close to winning the Cup, or at least evening Game 7, himself in the last minute of his last meaningful game.  Then? Three years of Holland stagnation.  Oh...I forgot. You're not stagnant when you're moving backward.  How do you move backward?  I don't know.  Franzen? Hossa? Go with Franzen, please.  And then watch him do nothing. Fredo Corleone as the only defenseman signed when ten others went elsewhere, ten others with more talent and tougher bones?

I know.  Not the usual tone for a live blog.  It's just that I'm hungry but the cook says it's getting to rough to feed us. And that sucks.

Shocking thought, as horrible as the Wings started, with any luck vs Chi they would be 4-2 right now.

But 3-2-1 7 points is better than I thought they would be right now.

Time for gut check against St Louis now.

Glad Bert is not missing an eye.

Someone needs to “tweet” the term “curly friends” to Mick or Murph.

Of all the people likely to repeat it “accidentally,” they’d be the ones.

Holy fuchin’ Hell.

Now imagine when Helm comes back.

Daniboy Cleary turn into a real boy?  Saw some pep in his step and not so much stupid making it look hard but really doing anything.

Toots was a BEAST, 2 in 1, winner of both.  I’m not used to Wings NOT getting their ass kicked, I usually just appreciate the effort.

Looks like I missed a decent game. I fought the muscle relaxers, and they won. I did see 22 throw down on the opening drop, can’t honestly say I am a fan of staged fights where there isn’t a history of bad blood between combatants.

Want a staged fight? Watch WWE Raw.

Bill, it was Pappy Van Winkle, the bourbon on “Justified”. Not a bourbon drinker, so can’t say I ever tasted it.

Later in the game there was some footage shown of an incident last season that may have left the Stars wanting revenge on Tootoo.

Pappy Van Winkle, yes.  A $200 bottle, purportedly.

The Stars must be really bad, except in net where he is getting a lot of practice stopping rubber.

Tootoo landed a big hit down in the corner in the first game, apparently the second fight was a carry over from that.

The second fight was a feud that carried over from Tootoo’s hit on Philip Larsen a week earlier, during Dallas’ 2-1 win in Detroit.

Dillon attempted to engage Tootoo after that hit, but the latter was at the end of his shift, so it wasn’t a good time.

“When you’re at the end of your shift and you have someone asking you to (fight), that’s a rookie move, and that’s what he did,’’ Tootoo said. “I have a good memory of what happened last game and (Dillon) was the one who asked me to go. It was game on.’‘

Giving up six inches to the 6-foot-3 Dillon, Tootoo, who is 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds, said he made a concerted effort to get in some body shots, hitting Dillon repeatedly in the side.

“Basically trying to protect myself from not getting hit and just keep whaling,’’ Tootoo said. “I thought we needed another little energy boost there and that’s pretty much what happened.’‘

And apparently Uncle Mike is good with that.

Don’t get me wrong, I like a good hockey fight as well as the next guy. Our club needed some sandpaper, no doubt.

But this isn’t about keeping the flies off our star players. It strikes me as giving the fans some “excitement”, because our on-ice performance may be lacking that, on any given night.

Once the Stars knew Tootoo was willing to go, I noticed them all back off.  Notice none of the usual netfront scrums taking advantage of howie or anyone else?  It also helped the Wings as a team get physical.

And I get it’s a “staged” fight.  But in WWE you knows who’s winning.  These guys are still fighting.  And the shot in the arm it gives the team is well worth it in my opinion.  Even Kindl was using his body and E laid out Morrow for extra whacks in the crease.  Morrow thought about it for half a second (retaliation) and saw Toots and calmed right down.

We’re going to be happy we had him sending messages and getting the boys fired up come playoff time when Pav and Z haven’t been hacked into injury.

Big game Friday at JLA, as STL come to the Motor City.  Thank you CBJ for playing the Blues tonight.  A little disconcerting that the Blues game is a measuring stick for DET, instead of the other way around.
