Tomas Holmstrom (groin) left practice early and won't play the next two games. Niklas Konwall (groin) said he felt good and hopes to play Friday. Chris Osgood (hand) has not practiced since Sunday and won't dress this weekend. Dominik Hasek, who starts Friday as the Wings try for a team-record 10th straight win, might also play Saturday in Edmonton. Coach Mike Babcock said there's also a chance that Joey MacDonald could make his first NHL start against the Oilers.
You know me, I’m not one to say “I told you so”, but I frigging told you so. Ted Kulfan reported this morning that Babcock, “expects Jason Williams (concussion), Tomas Holmstrom (groin), Niklas Kronwall (groin) and Chris Osgood (hand) to be available for Friday’s game against the Flames.” We responded to that here by saying…ummm, probably not.
Babcock must get a good laugh taking the Deep Diggers in three different directions. Naturally, Kulfan buys it hook, line and sinker.
Khan(!) also said a decision on Jason Williams’ availability for tomorrow night will be made after the morning skate.
Helene St. James expanded a bit more on the Williams situation in her blog.
Speaking after practice at the Saddledome, Williams said he’s still bothered by a sore neck. He doesn’t want to come back until he feels ready to resume where he left off – almost.
“I want to make sure that when I’m ready to go back, I want to play the exact same style,” he said. “If the situation comes down again where I’ve got a wrap-around, I’m going to take it to the net again. I’m not going to worry about getting hit. Maybe next time I’ll just try to take it to the net and stay on top of the goaltender, and if he wants to me, I’ll hit right into the goaltender. Just try to make myself not so vulnerable and keep my head up a little bit.”

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
