Helm: Consider Him A Pipe Dream

Well, for as much gruff (technical term) we give our Uncle Mike? He's not one to pull punches.  You want to see Darren Helm any time soon?  Put the pipe down.

Every other Digger is reporting the same thing.  And you heard about Quincey.  Out. 6 weeks.  Lidstrom's still retired.

Holy poop on a stick, will it ever end?

Might as well hang em up and get right for next year, Helm.

He needs to get 100% healthy. Rushing things won’t help. Sorry to state the obvious.

At this rate we won’t have any players healthy come playoff time other than G.R. Griffins.

Back injuries suck, who knew.

Bert’s back problem sounds career ending since I’ve heard nothing lately about him.

Gotta love those lockouts that surely helped this injury plague league wide but especially here to our bad luck.

BOG should give bettman a bonus for a job well done. Maybe dustcovers for his room full of law books.

Nice job in managing injuries DRW. Last week we were told they’d have to take it slow and let him slowly build things back up. This week he’s playing?

I might be wrong but isn’t all the talk about 13 going back to play in Russia after next year related to his playing there this year due to…lockout!

So sad about Helmer. He has been a real spark plug for the Wings. I think it might be best if he just writes off this season and gets himself well. If that’s possible. The poor kid seems to be snakebit.

And Bert?  I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again:  He’s done. Age + bad back = career over.

KH needs to start looking to the future and the future is NOW.

I disagree most vigorously. I think he’s depressed about not playing hockey for a really long time. I don’t think he wants to think about shutting down till September.

Well learn more in a day or two. If he can skate again within a week, he could be not too far off.

WRT Bert, I’m sure KH knows the writing is probably on the wall.

Say, just. wee bit off topic. Rangers seem fed up with Gaborik. Would a change of scenery help him?  Rangers need grit. We can give them some grit and a draft pick or two for Gaborik?

Anybody can be a success in the Babockian system, Just ask Abdelcarom. All he has to do is stand in front of the net and let Pasha shoot off of him. Why didn’t Pasha think of this sooner? Homer could be waiting a call from the HOF if Pasha had come up with this technique sooner.

This is not true whatsoever.  He’s had seasons of 41 and 42 goals with the Rangers.  The other year he was hurt as usual and still managed 22 goals.  He’s always hurt and Torts has benched him throughout his career there but Gabby always gets his in the end.  There’s also the fact that Gaborik played under Lemaire in Minny and managed to put up several 30 goal seasons.  Lemaire is known for his offense-sucking defense 1st system.

Q must need an underwire job to fix his orbital fractures. While the surgeon is in there, why not put in a shovel full of brains?

Helm needs to get a re-evaluation from the Doc in NY and probably more treatment.

Justin’s new last name should be Abdelcarom hyphen Steinway. Can he tune a piano but not tunafish? Thank You I’ll be here till the summer season, Don’t forget to tip your waitresses. grin

The Rangers must have a chemistry problem with Torts,Gabby,Nash, and Richards all in the same room. so who gets to go 1st?

Might be getting goals but he’s not the speed demon he was.  Should’ve clarified by “not the same”  I think his injuries have caught up.  He had a fast gritty team around him allowing him to score but now that NY’s a slower team he’s been more inconsistent.

And I assumed we wanted him for goal scoring prowess and I don’t think we have the personnel for him to thrive.

Pump the brakes high speed.

The bad news is Helmer is taking so long to recover. The good news is he isn’t using “stuff”(a nicer word for banned substances) to promote a faster recovery.

KH needs to start looking to the future and the future is NOW in Grand Rapids – and they’ll stay there until Babcock has no third or fourth liners to move up to the top two lines.

Helm gives new meaning to the term snake-bitten (in more ways than just failing to finish):

Due to a series of injuries, including a sprained knee and lacerated tendons in his forearm, Helm has played only full game in slightly more than 365 days.

Got to be realstic about Helm.  His contributions are highly based on physical energy, whether bursts of speed, hitting, persstence, PK, etc.  He’s been out of game to game contact for almost an entire year, it’s going to take some time for Helm to get into Helm-condition.
Posted by RWBill from the open bar on The Hasek. on 03/18/13 at 01:53 PM ET

A half-broken Helm is better than no Helm at all.

Well, no he isn’t, and that’s a problem for the Wings.

Back to today, good news is that 3 teams directly behind us in the standings used up one of their games in hand on us by losing in regulation to teams above us.

Vancouver, San Jose, Phoenix.

Let’s hope for St Louis to beat Vancouver and LA to beat down PHX, again, in a Lockout bizarre back to back set in the same arena.

It was possible after the great win in Vancouver that by our next game Wednesday we would be dropped to 9th as teams caught up their games in hand.

The worst we will be is 7th tomorrow and the games in hand will be gone.

All things considered with the roster this year we should be in a much worse place, but must continue to win, and get points, on the road.

Chief, been meaning to thank you for raising the Pavel story last week.

The major news mediums in this region that cover the team continue to amaze me with their lack of foresight (ie: BALLS) to cover “the state of the roster” for years on end around here.

Leave it to this great blog to do so, glad the story bubbled up to the surface on 97.1 so that a few proverbial alarms were pulled among the high-level grazing fans in the region.
