Hard Life Lessons For Baby Brother…Live Blog Them

You don’t win multiple Cups when you blow your wad on one year and five players.  You just don’t. You win one, then you fall into mediocrity and 6 seeds.  You make grand claims that your time has arrived to consistently compete for a block of cheese but in reality that wholesome nugget of delicious dairy stays where it is because sustained excellence is all your big brother knows. Sustained. Excellence.

No team can point to Detroit and say “we’re almost there.”  Nobody can say that because nobody is.  Nobody’s done it longer, better or with as much character as the Wings have.  Pittsburgh had to lose a million games over four years to get the picks that landed them their one Cup of the Bettman/Crosby era.  Chicago bought theirs. Bought it outright then sold it a few weeks later.  Anaheim pillaged their way to theirs but only a fluttering puck of sin that somehow knuckled over the shoulder of our insane goalie got them to the dance.  Boston’s a nice team but no pharmacist would ever tell you they have the staying power Detroit does. Not for two years, five, ten or 21.

All is normal. All is well.  The Wings lead everything that matters.  Chicago is fighting for the 6 seed because that’s what you do when Corey Crawford is your number 1 goalie because Stan is no Scott. Not by a long shot, sonny.  It’s big, bad nasty brother and the little tyke that wants so bad to just once prove to the world that they’re right there, shoulder to shoulder.

You’re not though.  You’re just not and there just aren’t any signs that equality is a real possibility tonite, in May or next year.

So start your chants.  Start them early.  We know.  “Detroit sucks.”  We got it.  But we also get this: you stopped feeling that one a long, long time ago.

It’s a Live Blog, bitches.

There’s a great question:  Which U.S.city played in the NHL first:  Boston, Chicago, Detroit, or New York City?

Oh, the third period started.  And the Wings haven’t.

Since the 1967 expansion from the Original 6, Has Montreal or Toronto made the playoffs more than 20 consecutive years?

I’m no pharmacist, and I ain’t gonna waste my time fact-checking, but I’m pretty certain that St. Lose is the only other NHL team beside the almighty Wings in the expansion era to make the playoffs 20 consecutive times. And we all know how many time the Blose have won the Cup, Zero.

I don’t know if anyone else already answered this because I’m too lazy to check, so here it comes.

This is a list of every postseason streak of 20 or more seasons in NHL history, Cups in parantheses:

Boston Bruins   29 seasons 1967–68 through to 1995–96 (1970, 72)
Chicago Blackhawks 28 seasons 1969–70 through to 1996–97 (none)
St. Louis Blues 25 seasons 1979–80 through to 2003–04 (none)
Montreal Canadiens 24 seasons 1970–71 through to 1993–94 (71, 73, 76, 77, 78, 79, 86, 93)
Montreal Canadiens 21 seasons 1948–49 through to 1968–69   (53, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 65, 66, 68, 69)
Detroit Red Wings   20 seasons 1938–39 through to 1957–58 (43, 50, 52, 54, 55)
Detroit Red Wings   20 seasons 1990–91 to present   (97, 98, 2002, 2008)

From 1948 until 1994, the Montreal Canadiens made the post season 45 out of 46 years and won the Stanley Cup 18 times.  In 1970 they missed the playoffs by a tiebreaker difference of two goals. The previous decade (2000-2009) was the first in NHL history in which they did not win the Stanley Cup at least once.

Checking in late…what else is new?  This whole “work” thing is cramping my viewing pleasure.

I also note that my favorite pirate has bit the dust.  This guy brought me more viewing pleasure than Little Gary will in a lifetime.  I raise my cup and wish him the best!

On Sunday, February 19, 2012 I received a cease and desist email from an NHL attorney. I have been ordered to stop the unauthorized streaming of NHL copyrighted works. With the recent arrest of a Comstock Park, MI man for copyright infringement, I had to really step back and recognize the risks associated with continuing this site. I am expecting my first child in August, and I cannot go to jail over something like this site. I have made the unfortunate and difficult decision to stop streaming any and all NHL games. I have no plans of moving the site to a new domain or to continue streaming elsewhere. I hope you enjoyed the streams this season, and I am sorry that I can not continue providing this service to you. You can thank the NHL for ruining the party.

Get off yur butts Red Wings !!!!!

Since this game has all the excitement of a farting contest, I guess maybe it’s time to re-ignite the discussion about this team’s need for a top-six forward.  Nothing quite brings that glaring weakness back into focus like Datsyuk’s absence.

Ok, that’s not true, we can always sacrifice more in the future.
