Happy Now?

That’s from his blog entry, and the game story’s even better. Russo’s just a good writer, one of the best out there.

No team picks the Wild apart like the Red Wings, who are a league-best 20-4-6 against the Wild and have won 16 of the past 19 meetings and eight of 10 in Detroit.

And the Red Wings, who have won six in a row and are 20-4-2 at home, were playing without net-crashers Tomas Holmstrom and Johan Franzen.

“Good machine,” Wild coach Jacques Lemaire said. “I would love to say that we didn’t play good and we could beat them. The way they were playing, they were just superior.”

Detroit has a writer as good as Russo. Unfortunately, he chooses to ignore the Wings on most days, most weeks, most months.

Today, Michael Rosenberg graced us with his presence to tell us Chris Osgood’s been a little preoccupied with a certain legacy. No not Manny.

The more Osgood thought about the big numbers, the worse he played. The worse he played, the more he pressed. The more he pressed, the more he felt like his chance at those big numbers was slipping away. Get in a lather, rinse, repeat.

“I had so much stuff in my head about 400 or Sawchuk’s 452,” Osgood said. “Or about trying to win a Cup. You can’t win a Cup in January. I know that—that’s what’s so frustrating.”

The result was something we never thought we’d see: Chris Osgood, taking himself too seriously. It was like Nick Lidstrom showing up with a facial tattoo.

I should be landing in DC early this evening and back in front of the tube in time to kick off the live blog tonite.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
