Abel to Yzerman

Give Us Rosby

Two games left: Carolina and the Bitter Bitch Battered Blues.  We need three points, at least. We need them.  And here's what else we need.

The state of Florida needs to come through.  Steve Yzerman needs to come through. Jon Cooper and Stamkos and whatever slug they've got in goal down in Tampa (in place of Bishop) needs to come through.

Why?

Because Pittsburgh is ripe.  They are ripe for a whipping and the Wings will do just that. Whip them. In 5 games.

The Pens are a soft team.  The Wing forwards owned them last night, just as we mentioned they would.  Their defense is too slow.  Immobile.  Tatar and Nyquist, Helm and Sheahan. Jurco and Datsyuk. All of them were moving at will. Everything looked crisp offensively last night.  And that's not just because the Wings upped their tempo or their game. It's because Pittsburgh allowed it.

We want that team in the first round.

But the chances are not good.  Tied at 90 with the tie breaker going to the BJs.  And, that makes sense. BJ's are always the tie breaker in any situation.

They'll beat the Panthers and we'll beat Carolina.   We need Tampa to beat Columbus or at least hold them to one point.  The Wings need to go into St. Lose on Sunday with a chance at the 7 seed.

Jimmy Howard makes that save on the third goal last night.  Jimmy Howard also makes the save on the lone shootout goal, a stupid comparison since that idiotic bullshit aspect of Gary's league won't exist after Sunday.

Rosby is not the same player against the Wings as he is against any other team, anywhere.  Glendening had him sputtering and he was practically invisible for much of the game.  Why? Because Detroit gives him no space. None.  He hates it.

Gimmick win, or not, Pittsburgh does not want the Wings.

3 out of 4 against the Bruins, or not, Detroit does not want Boston.  Could we give them a run? Yes. But Pittsburgh's the team we want. Slow, soft and stupid with a weak goalie.  Yes, a weak goalie and I don't give a shit if he was carried to a Cup in '09.  This is not '09 and The Flower scares nobody.

Carolina is a must-win.  The Blues? I'd like to see us go in needing 1 point.  And that means Tampa needs to do their damn job.

Because the Pens are who we want. Again. Give me Pittsburgh.

The Blues haven’t exactly been playing great the last few games either.
Might as well end the regular season up with a pair of W’s.

im actually concerned that Backes and the thug crew will try to hurt some of our key players Sunday. Not feeling good about it all so far. And we sure wont get any help from Florida(s) either. Cosby’s kids are indeed ripe, I hope thats the path the hockey gods start us on.

I think they can too, but I also think it would be a harder fought series and if the Wings do win they would come away a lot worse for wear than if they played the Pens.

If course, if they play the Pens then I’m sure James Neal with make a point to try and take a couple heads off.

We need Tampa to beat Columbus or at least hold them to one point.  The Wings need to go into St. Lose on Sunday with a chance at the 7 seed.

I’m hoping for another scenario. If the Wings win both of their remaining games and end up with at least one more point than both the Flyers and the BJs, they’d face the Rangers in the 1st round – possibly as the #2 seed (depending on what the Rangers do).

Failing that, I’m hoping for this scenario. The BJs win both of their remaining games and the Flyers lose at least one game (preferably both) and the Flyers come up with one less point than the Wings do. If those things happen, here’s what the 1st round in the East would look like…

Atlantic Division
1. Boston
2. Montreal
3. Tampa Bay
4. Philadelphia

Metosexual Division
1. Pittsburgh
2. New York/Columbus
3. Columbus/New York
4. Detroit

Then, if the Wings beat the Pens, they’d face either New York or Columbus. At the same time, the goons from Beantown and the idiots from Philly would beat each other senseless before the winner meets either Montreal or Tampa Bay.

Both scenarios are long shots. But so was the scenario of the Wings making it to the playoffs. Anything can happen.

You can’t argue with logic like that.

I like Detroit vs. Boston too - just like the Sharks had the Wings’ number in many ways over the past few years, the Wings have dominated the Bruins since 2008. 8 and 2, only 1 of these wins in the SO. Playoffs are a different beast, but tell me that Detroit doesn’t also turn it up in the playoffs.

it doesn’t really matter.

bruins…pens…the wings are out in 6 or fewer, regardless.

The Wings can’t do better than #1 Wild Card.  Their only options are to play the Pens or the Bruins.

Don’t be fooled by the regular season record versus Boston.  If we play them it will be an ass beating for the Wings.  We don’t have the defense or goaltending to hang with them.

We definitely want Pittsburgh, though I still think we lose in six.

Yes, there is still the possibility the BJ’s could pass Philly in the metro; pusing Philly into a wildcard seed. Phil, BJ’s and Det are all even at 91 pts. Phil has a game-in-hand though.

What OTC is saying is that Columbus overtakes Philadelphia for the #3 spot in the Metro, Detroit gets the #1 Wild Card spot, and Philly falls to #2 Wild Card.

Philly, Columbus, and Detroit all have 91 points right now (Philly has one game in hand) so this is technically possible and on paper the best case scenario for Detroit as it’d mean opening round versus Pittsburgh with the second round being against the winner of New York / Columbus.

A lot would have to happen to make that scenario a reality though.

Sorry, Garth, ugh. I totally misread what OTC’s scenario was and thought he had it how I had it. Detroit can’t move up into the Metro obviously and play New York in the first round.

Cindy and the Pens get loads of help from the refs/league (uber-convenient power plays and un-suspendble superstars ring a bell?) We all know its true, Buttman’s golden boy WILL ABSOLUTELY get plenty of help from the refs… but will it be enough?

the thing that scares me about the Bruins is their ability to forecheck the defensemen into oblivion. It takes a physical toll ,and moving the puck out of our end has the been the sore spot all season.

Yeah, that first scenario doesn’t work. Stupid cross-division crap.

But the second scenario does work – if – both the BJs and Detroit out-pace the Flyers. Philly will get stuck with Boston and the Wings will get the Penguins (while the BJs play the Rangers). For me, that’s the best scenario possible.

I can see it. I want that crybaby in tears, slumped over his own net as the Wings celebrate at center ice at the end of the series. I want his egocentric self wondering how a seventh seed team could possibly dominate them in every facet of the game.

Our kids will own them, and make them our bitch. Tonight, we dine on small flightless birds.

I look at the three sad-sack franchises that we’re tied with (CLB and PHI) or close to (NYR) and lament how we dropped some easily winnable games against them earlier this year.  It’s great to have escaped the Peloton of Suck, but frustrating we didn’t win a few more along the way.

Oh well.  Go Wings!

It appears things will play out as they are today: Phil, BJ, and Det even on ponts, but seeded 6,7,8 respectively.

Phil has two games remaining; 1 each against Pitt (project to L) and Carolina (project to W).

BJ’s two remaining games are 1 each against Bolts (project to L) and Florida (project to W).

Det has two remaining games 1 each against Carolina (project W) and BBBB (project to L).

If that is the way in plays out, all teams will finish with 93 pts and Det with no tie-breakers is the 8 seed. But of course this is why they play the games. Both Det and BJ’s could yet get 1 more point than Phil and then it’s Rosby in the first round as requested.
