GDT - Game #81:  Red Wings host Devils (7:30)

DET (48-27-5) are 4th in Conference again thanks to a miraculous come-from-behind road victory at STL last night.  The Wings rallied from, what had to be total dejection going down 2 goals in the 3rd.  The PP has become indescribably bad.  At one time, in the not too distant past, you could reasonably expect it to score a goal per game, it was so good.  Nowadays, you just hope that it doesn’t give up more scoring opportunities than it generates.  Some direct talk from Babcock:  “I hated our power play, I mean I hated watching that. I thought early in the game we had them in their zone two minutes, we had lots of opportunity and then that five-minute thing, when you give that up, that’s a tough one.’’  The Wings have got to get the PP out of the liability column.

No early word on who will start in net against the 6th in the East NJD (46-28-6), or who sits on the defense rotation (I’d suggest Yak - he was terrible last night).  Home ice is tantalizingly close.  LGRW.

Anyone want to explain to me what the hell Leyland was thinking taking Verlander out to start the 9th when he had a 2 hit 2-0 shut out going?

Are you questioning ole Smokey? He know’s all.

Nope, I don’t get it neither. But at least the pressure is off Valverde for another perfect season.

At least they got the W. I bet Verlander is pissed. Watch him end up with 29 W’s at the end of the season.

Catching up to the LB last night and now tonight’s GDT against the Devils.  I already had my Java but now I’m having a spiked Java (Kahlua and Java, actually) to settle in.  Thanks so much, Jeff.  Always, always, appreciated, Sir.

No early word on who will start in net against the 6th in the East NJD (46-28-6), or who sits on the defense rotation (I’d suggest Yak - he was terrible last night).

Word.  I couldn’t fathom such a ridiculous game from him especially on the shortie.  FFS…

Nice to know we’re graduating to an even greater level of NHL referee suckitude.  Unbelievable.

The Wranglers are up 2-0 in the best-of-five series against the Utah Grizzlies in the first round of the ECHL playoffs (yes, they’ve already started).  I have tix to tonight’s probable clincher so I’m not going to be able to be here for the LB.

Just get the two points, Wings.  Don’t care how just get the two points.

And a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to the Emperor.

Jim Leyland makes me want to do bad things.

Thanks, Okie!

Excited to see the Sheahan signing.  Ken Holland said in Ken Kal’s Game Day Preview that he’s not playing tonight, but there’s a chance he may be in the line up against Chicago.  I’ve seen the kid play for Notre Dame.  He’s good.  And he’s big.  And good news that Helm skated for the first time.

LET’S GO RED WINGS !!!!!

(Sucks that Verlander didn’t get the win today.  But glad the Tigers pulled it out in the bottom of the ninth.)

Only slight change from yesterday, unless you’re a Wings fan.  I agree with everyone who has stated that the final standings and seedings are far less important than how you play in the playoffs ( I think that’s what you were trying to say, if not go suck DC’s cock ).

Q:Since 1994, and excluding 1995, how many teams who finished lower than third in their conference have won the Stanley Cup?
A: Two.

Q: And of those teams, how many were less than a fourth seed?
A: Zero.

Q: And how many of those two four-seed teams that ended up winning it all actually finished second in their conference in points?
A: One.

Regular season standings and seedings don’t matter.  But they are a damn good indicator of potential post season success and/or lack thereof.
