GDT - Game #61: Red Wings at ‘Hawks (8:00)

DET (41-17-2) will skate for a season high 7 game winning streak in the Windy City to take on CHI (32-21-7) for a battle of Central Division and Original Six rivals. Jimmy F’n Howard will start in goal for the first time since he broke his right index finger on Feb. 2. The Blackhawks have won three in a row, following a miserable stint where they were winless in 9 games (0-8-1).
Sorry the GDT is late, I was dropping off Rambo, who starts his basic training today.
LGRW.
Oh crap, the Emperor says Datysuk had his knee scoped - out two weeks.

The Pav thing really sucks. Let’s hope it’s like Jimmy’s injury though, and someone, or multiple people, step up to make up for it.

Eff you Jobu & the month of February while I’m at it.
This is a huge opportunity for guys to step it up & maybe really give us something to rally around for the stretch drive to the playoffs here. Let’s just hope Jimmy is 100% ready to go….

Our young bucks have a real opportunity here to stand out. I’m looking at Mursak, Emmerton and Kindl to pick up some slack.

Ya know, I could have just kept on with my busy day, and not stolen a few moments to read about the Wings.
I could still be oblivious to the fact that PAVEL EFF-ING DATSUK HAD A KNEE SCOPED.
Piss, shit, and corruption.

One good February doesn’t negate the last one or the one before that or…..
Not knocking the W’s & points by any means, just once I’d like to see this month pass us by without piling up injuries and or losses was all.
If nothing else, the Jobu bug forced Tick Tock’s hand on the back up goalie situation.

‘Ello, Jeff. Short and simple GDT. I like it.
Cleary is expected to be reunited on the third line with Darren Helm and Drew Miller, who has a career-high 12 goals.
I should call that line, “The Big Tits Line.”
Dan Cleary.
Darren Helm.
Drew Miller.
Big Tits, indeed.

Well, it’s not like there were any significant injuries beforehand (and no, I don’t count Eaves because he was sitting out as many games as he was playing before he got injured) and the fact that the Wings are sitting at the top of the entire league right now and the fact of the Wings’ record so far during the month, it’s hard for me to see the dire circumstances other people see.

Garth, they are on top of the league, for now, but how can you be so Norman Vincent Peal when our all star Vezina candidate goalie has been out for three weeks with a broken finger and now the greatest player on ice is gone for weeks with a knee injury. What do you think of our chances are without Pavs in Lil Gary’s skills comp? How more inept will the 15% PP be without Pavs in the lineup.
Your glass may be half full but mine sure as hell is half empty.

I don’t know, what were our chances of going 7-1-1 when our Vezina-calibre goalie went down to injury?
Maybe with Datsyuk out, IF we have any games that end in the skills comp, Babcock picks someone other than the SIX players who have taken shots all year. Maybe without Datsyuk to lean (both in offense and defense), the team is forced to buckle down a little more defensively.
They ARE on top of the league right now and they’re not going to fall out of playoff contention because Datsyuk misses 6-7 games.
And you can’t honestly think that the Red Wings are only as successful as Datsyuk or you mustn’t think very highly of the team you cheer for. Seriously, he’s got four goals in the last twenty games and the team has won 16 of those twenty. He’s not the be-all end-all of the team.

From the CBC.ca preview:
The Red Wings will be looking to win seven consecutive games for the third time this season.
Fifteen of Detroit’s 17 regulation losses this season have come on the road.
Detroit’s defensemen have scored an NHL-leading 35 goals this season, while the Blackhawks’ defesemen have scored just 19.
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 02/21/12 at 07:17 PM ET
nobody here has mentioned this…
The Detroit Red Wings have landed Colorado Avalanche defenseman Kyle Quincey in a three-team deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In exchange for Quincey, the Avs received Lightning right wing Steve Downie and Detroit sent minor league defenseman Sebastien Piche and its first-round pick in 2012 to Tampa Bay.
Quincey, who has 18 assists and 23 points through 52 games this year, is on pace for his second-best season since entering the NHL on a full-time basis in 2008 with Los Angeles.
Detroit originally drafted Quincey 132nd overall in 2003.
The 24-year-old Downie has 12 goals and 16 assists this season for Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay and Colorado entered Tuesday in 11th place in their respective conferences, while Detroit has the best record in the league.
Downie and Quincey are set to become restricted free agents July 1.

Since the 1967 expansion from the Original 6, Has Montreal or Toronto made the playoffs more than 20 consecutive years?
I’m no pharmacist, and I ain’t gonna waste my time fact-checking, but I’m pretty certain that St. Lose is the only other NHL team beside the almighty Wings in the expansion era to make the playoffs 20 consecutive times. And we all know how many time the Blose have won the Cup, Zero.
Posted by CaptainDennisPolonich from Warm and sunny SoCal on 02/21/12 at 10:10 PM ET
I’m not sure I like the Quincey deal. Like Hudler’s experience in the KHL, it will take Quincey a while to unlearn the Divalanche way of doing things and relearn how to play Red Wing Hockey. Though if it cuts down on E52’s ice time, I suppose I can’t complain too loudly. It also seems like a very steep price to pay.
