GDT - Game #56:  Red Wings host Ducks (7:30)

DET (36-17-2) will try to extend their home win streak to 19 games tonight when they host ANA (21-24-8).  The Wings are 21-2-1 at JLA, and have not lost at home since November 3.  Jimmy Howard is on the shelf, so look for Joey MacDonald in net tonight (the Conk is for dire straights only, his .878 save percentage is the league’s worst among goalies with at least 10 appearances).  Danny Cleary is also out, no word yet if it’ll be the Rifleman or Mursak taking the roster spot.

Things look pretty bleak for the Ducks, 12 in conference, they are 10 points out of the 8 spot, and would have to climb over 4 teams to get in.  They are on a bit of a roll lately, 11-3-2 in last 16

By playing in tonight’s game, Nicklas Lidstrom will tie the NHL record for regular season games played by all players who played their entire career for only one franchise, 1,549 games, a record currently held by Alex Delvecchio of the Detroit Red Wings.

The all-time record for franchise games played for all players is 1,687, held by Gordie Howe, also of the Detroit Red Wings.

Here’s hoping Lidstrom passes Howe early in the 2013-2014 campaign.

Holmstrom will play in his 1,000th career game tonight when the Wings put their 18-game home winning streak on the line against the Anaheim Ducks at Joe Louis Arena. He’ll be the 271st player in NHL history to hit the milestone, but only the sixth in a Wings uniform.-Helene St.James

If nothing else, a 119% effort for Homer and his huge beautiful ASS.
Do it for Homer’s ASS!

Not to down play the importance of TPH either. Kudos to the greatest sports franchise ever, and, 2 of their most important players. Oh, and 1 PP goal scoring ASS.

Thanks OAkie, for the early mornin’ GDT.

Bitches.

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

Good Ericsson discussion at the end of last game’s LB. Looking forward to more facts vs. what people think they saw. Or felt, or whatever, but facts is facts, kids, and we’re in first place.

Also, CHI are fading fast, losers of 6 straight. What if the wheels came off and they missed the playoffs? Do we win everything by default?

Funny.  STL are hard on the heels

1   DET   55   36   17   2   74   30
2   STL   53   32   14   7   71   30

Same number of ROW wins.  The only saving grace is the Blues have a road heavy schedule remaining (17 of their remaining 29 are road games), and at 10-11-3 - they aren’t so spiffy on the road, maybe that will help.

Yeah I made sure I checked the standings before I boasted of our first place standing, especially with that meltdown in NJ that let STL win in a shootout. I really, really don’t like that team but they are really, really good this year (or at least play a good system).

And I have a feeling they’ll fall off a bit because of the road games, like you mentioned. It’s just a tough part of the season right now figure out road woes and change the course (see also: Detroit). And how many times have we seen teams enjoy rare success for much of the season, keep pace with Detroit, only to falter and hang back as the season goes on because of how difficult it is to maintain? Happens to at least a few teams every year.

Yup the home ice advantage these last 25 or so games should help us secure home ice advantage in the playoffs.

Abdelkader is in playoff goal mentality already.

Did Okie characterize the Ducks as on a “bit” of a roll?  3 regulation losses in 16 games is pretty darn good.

Sure, but numbers like that can be misleading.

The Ducks and Wings are both 7-2-1 in the last ten, which looks pretty damn good, but both teams have lost three of their last six.

the home ice advantage will be good for point-getting, but I fear it will make fixing the road problems (especially the PP) not feel important to the Wings…and they won’t be ready to win on the road when the playoffs come around.

Damn.  I take a couple days away to pay attention to my job and miss out on a fiery debate on E-52.  That’s why I dig this place.  We’re all somewhat guilty of holding this organization to ridiculously high standards.  I don’t think it’s too much different than the standard that the organization has set for itself though, so I don’t think we’re out of line.  Maybe a little too over the top sometimes (myself included), but since we know Kenny and the braintrust hang on our every word, we’re probably just feeling all empowered and shit.

Two pretty incredible streaks on the line tonight.  18 straight wins on home ice (we all know about that one), and 15 straight games of giving up at least one PP goal against.  Something inside me insists that these two streaks are on a collision course and that one of them will die tonight as though the continuation of one of them comes at the expense of the other.

Danny Cleary is also out, no word yet if it’ll be the Rifleman or Mursak taking the roster spot.
