GDT - Game #49:  Red Wings host Blues (7:30)

A battle of Norris Division, and overall NHL, leaders tonight at JLA.  DET (32-15-1) are riding a 16 game home win streak, and are winners of their last 6 games overall.  STL (29-12-1) are riding a 4 game win streak and are 23-5-6 since Hitchcock took over coaching duties. The Blues last loss in regulation was December 31, a 3-0 loss to the Wings, since then they are 8-0-1.  The Blues 1.94 GA/G lead the league, due in large part to netminder Brian Elliot’s obscene (and league leading) 1.68 GAA.  The good news for Wing fan, Hitchcock will start Jaroslav Halak in net tonight. The bad news, Halak is riding a seven-game winning streak and is 11-0-3 in his last 14 games,

C’mon Babs.  Get Mursak in there.  I have not been impressed with Emmerton.  I’m not ready to dump him yet but Jan looked really good in his first game back and got a hard-working assist.  Emmerton is unnoticed out there.

Thanks for putting this together JeffOKWingnut.

Good way to start the day. The head-hunting-cheap-shotting-brutish Wings need to show up tonite. Just to send a message ya know…........

I’m going to take Halak’s streak with a big fat lump of salt.  Only the first win of that 11 was against a team currently in the playoffs and that was way back at the end of October.

and

Jaroslav Halak (G) 3-0-0, 0.67, .966 in last 3 GPI

This just begs the question:  is it the keeper or the skaters in front of the keeper or both?

Just get the two points, Wings.  I was hoping the Jackets would rough up the Wings a little bit to get them riled up and angry so they can carry that anger over into tonight’s game against the B’Lose.

This game has to matter.

Looj, I here ya, Mursak looked good his last game, better than Emmerton does on a nightly basis.  I think they may be shopping Emmerton before the deadline however and knowing Mursak was ready to come in and start producing and is responsible, they want to get Emmerton as much exposure before the deadline as possible.  He’s definitely been the weakest link, granted he’s a rookie, but he’s maxed out his options and we have other prospects to devleop and cap space this year.

Tatar is out of options next year, we have Eaves, Miller, Mursak, Helm, Abby and Cleary (I think we’ve proven he excels against 3rd line competition offensively and is good enough defensively to take on top lines.  3rd line is perfect fit and gives us an edge.  We’re stacked on that side and we’d like more topline talent, someone has to be expendable and I think THEY think Emmerton is more-so than Tatar.

Not to mention Nyquist will probably make the team out of training camp and depending on the offseason may or may not play in the bottom 6 as well (we’d have elite depth)

SYF, this game does matter.  We lose and we’re tied in GP with the Blues and they have a point on us.  We win and we put a 3 point lead against them.  Could start to establish some slight breathing room in the division.  2nd in division this year is going to be 4th at best in the conference.. we NEED to win the division.  If we wouldn’t have let San Jose get position on us last season in the conference at the end of the season we’d have played that game 7 in Det..

Way back when the Blues gave the Wings fits and tied us in knots, rather than throwing the Wings under the bus as so many did, both HTT and I said “Give Hitchcock credit”.  Since then they have tied everyone in knots. The Blues are not a fluke under Hitchcock.

The Blues play every game like the Conference Finals, tight as dick skin.

remember the other night when Franzen took a puck in the foot and hobbled off?  I must accept responsibility for that, because about 5 minutes before that I literally thought “gee, Datsyuk and Franzen haven’t been hurt this year.  oh, damn, now one of them is going to get hurt tonight, because I thought about it.”

then BANG off goes Franzen.
