Eight games into this short season (1/6 of the way), and the Wings have been, what's the word - - - inconsistent (at most things anyway). After the embarassment of opening day, DET established they do in fact have some cajones with an exceptionally gritty win against STL. The very next day, the Wings lay an egg against CBJ - - I lean to giving the Wings a pass, as being spent physically and mentally. But the remaining schedule has more back-to-back (and I'm too lazy to look it up), and DET are going to need wins as they cling to the 8th spot.
The one thing DET have been consistent at this season is horrid special teams play; 11.1 PP%(26), 71.0% PK(28). With all the penalties being called, that is a recipe for losing, plain and simple.
Uncle Mike is freaked out that the 3 and 4 lines have a combined 1 point this season, so DET have called up Tatar (Tots). Looks like Tots is on the 2 line, bumping Bert-Uzi down.
Your team is like a roller-coaster, LGRW.

Thanks, Okie!
Since I’ll be listening on radio (I still haven’t caved on getting Gamecenter), I hope to find some comments this evening about how Tatar looks.

Khan Tweets from the morning skate:
Babcock said Tatar will start the game on line with Datsyuk and Filppula.
Eaves is scratched.
Babcock said White is playing tonight. Lashoff back in, Kindl out.

I wouldn’t think Patty would be working in on the 3rd n 4th lines if he had a setback.

Saw this over on the mainpage:
- Last year, approximately 22 per cent of the NHL’s goals were scored on the power play. This year, it’s closer to one third.
That is, unless your playing DET, then it’ll be even more.

The reffing sure is skewing things, and teams that suck on special teams are really digging out of a hole.

Yes and yes.
If I had the time, I’d look at the PP goals scored and shorty’s scored against. But, it can’t be pretty. If your getting 5 PP opportunities per game and are at 20%, that is a PP goal every game, on average.
The PK # is lethal too. If I had the time I’d look up the average number of penalties against per game. If you are only killing 70%, that is both shameful, and a big mountain to overcome.
Apparently, Lashoff is in to try to shore up the PK.
“I just want to win,” Babcock said after the skate. “It’s just about trying to figure out what’s the best option that gives us the best chance that’s what you’re trying to do on a nightly basis. Lash did a real good job for us on the penalty kill. Specialty teams are huge for us, tonight’s the Flames’ power is about eighth in the league, around 24 percent, we’re probably going to take a couple penalties, but we want to be disciplined so we want to kill them off and we feel Lash gives us the best opportunity to do that.”

Thanks Okie!
Roller Coaster?!
Say What?
LMAO. If it weren’t for the flashbacks I would have no memory.
Statistically, the Wings should dominate tonight…..thus, I see them winning, in a shoot out.

Interesting quote from Babs. I hope lash is more impactful on the PK than Kindle was on the PP.
Is Iginla healthy and playing? Somehow I could see him as a great lead by example Captain, and on the Wings a great motivating top 6 player, as in, get your fat asses in gear and get engaged in the game, what in the holy Hell are you waiting for?

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
