GDT - Game 36: Red Wings (17-13-5) host Avalanche (12-18-4) 7:30

What do you say after DET are taken to the woodshed by the 'Hawks (again), on national TV, and when the organiziation is celebrating #9's birthday?

Well, we know what Ken Holldand would say:  "I'm OK where we're at."  Ridiculous, i'm glad at least somebody is.

DET cling to 7th in the POS.  The ass-kicking yeterday was even more humiliating than the back-to-back losses to CBJ; just gawd-awful (Kronwall -4, E-52 -5?).

The'Dive (worst in the West) are in town tonight, wonder if they are in a mood to pile-on?

What do you say after DET are taken to the woodshed by the ‘Hawks (again), on national TV, and when the organiziation is celebrating #9’s birthday?

Indeed.  It’s too late in the season to say “Let’s just forget about this one and move on”  The Wings have had about five or eight too many of those this year.

Thanks OKie.

Bitches.

Yesterday’s game is still pissing me off. If the Wings don’t come out pissed off and ready to kick some Dive ass this roster needs a serious shakeup. This is gonna be a telling game

id still love to finish 6th if Vancouver stays in 3rd(all of course IF we can make the damn playoffs). I like our chances in that spot.

I’m also still pissed about yesterday’s game because there is simply no excuse for why it happened.

Vlad said “this is going to be a telling game.”  I think yesterday was.

But as my Dad always said, “It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.”

Probably won’t be in the LB tonight.  It’s my 26th wedding anniversary and hubby and I are going out on the town.

Thanks, Okie!

“Crabs walk sideways, and lobsters walk straight,” sang The Smothers Brothers.

That’s OK if you like having crabs because I can verify that they do walk sideways.

But walking sideways on the POS is a Kiss of Playoff Death.

Further, Detroit’s sterling 2 game performance since The Rookie treated his teammates to 37 Coronas and 1 piña colada has set them adrift squarely into The Danger Zone, floating below the historical 8th place and above the 9th place trend lines.

Not surprisingly, BJs are preferred to wings by young male hockey fans, and they are headed to pass the Wings if Detroit doesn’t shake their case of the crabs.

Hey, is that Archer?  Can he skate?

Jeremy Morin got to a loose puck in front of the net before Kronwall and fired it in at 2:33. Saad capitalized on some badly blown coverage to skate in alone on the left side and beat Jimmy Howard at 3:21. Bolland was credited with the third goal, at 4:12, when Jakub Kindl backhanded the puck into his own net.

“Badly blown coverage” is even an understatement.  I don’t care what Cleary’s normal assignment is, there were already 4 Wings pinned against the far boards so he skated there anyway and left no one in the middle of the defensive zone.  You’ve got to adjust to the ever changing situations out there.

It looked like goal #1 Jimmy banked a clearing attempt right into Kronwall’s skate and back into the crease for an easy one, and #3 the guy just whacked Kindl’s stick from behind and used it to knock the puck in.  Not real strong.

Yes that’s exactly what happened on the first goal.  How many pucks this year have gone in the net either directly off Kronwall or off Kronwall to an opponent’s stick and in the net?  Seems like a dozen easy.

There is a slight error in the second chart, the bottom line of the Danger Zone is the current year’s, not historical, trend line for 9th place.

Historically there is less room for forgiveness between 8th and 9th.

That would be me. A long time ago in the Cosmic Dust during a live blog I made the mistake of saying I had been around for 60 decades(though it feels like it). I meant 6 decades, but, I was feeling the effects of alcohol, of which I usually don’t partake.

Henceforth it has stuck.

Damn.

Current 48 Game Projected Finish
Ignores recent hot/cold streaks, which could result in inaccurate results.

I’ve been going to work the numbers to come up with a “moving average” percentage, using a period of 6 or 8 games.  This would better show who’s hot and who sucks.  Nonetheless, the following considers total games remaining, but not home/away or opponent.  That’s too much work and not necessarily meaningful.

After the first 5 teams, things are tighter than my cousin’s knees after Prom.

CHI 78
ANA 70
MIN 62
VAN 60
LAK 59
SJS 56
DET 53
