GDT - Game 23: Red Wings (10-8-4) host Avalanche (8-8-4) 7:30

At the moment, DET are 10th in the Conference, but only 1 point out of playoff position; that's the good news.  There are a couple bits of bad news.  To date the Wings have played 4 more games at the JLA than on the road - - that means a road heavy schedule to wind-up the season.  DET are not very good on the road 3-4-2.  The other bit of bad news - - right now there are 7 teams within 2 points of each other fighting for playoff berths (GP/PTS):

4. PHX 22 25
5. LAK 20 24
6. SJS 20 24
7. STL 21 24
8. MIN 21 24
9. DAL 22 24
10. DET 22 24
11. NSH 23 23

This is a game DET should win; especially if they are a playoff contender.  Is it too early to call it a must-win?

Given most teams have 2 games in hand on us, we’ve got to stop leaving points on the table. Yep, we’ve made strides in the right direction… but ya gotta seal the deal and put 2 points in the bank every time you have your hands on them.

And these next 4 are ‘second tier’ teams.  Wings need to start putting the stake in every team, and that means going into ‘second tier’ games with a mind to wipe them out.  You can’t wait for the Blackhawks to raise your game.

I looked at the line combos and don’t even want to watch the frigging game.  For the love of all things bright, shiny, and… oh look a quarter.  What?  Oh yeah, I would truly rather see any other Detroit player currently on the roster skating alonside Datsyuk than Gator.  I’m not saying I don’t like Justin, but what a waste to have him there.  It’s not working.  He is better served in the role he was signed to play.  I know this topic has been beat to death, but damn…

Datsyuk, Tootoo, Eaves… Make it so number 2.

It is never too early!

I miss the days when Wings/Avs games were all people talked about around here.  Now I’m the only one still talking.

Let’s go Red Wings!!!!!

Fil, Kindl, and Abby to Winnipeg for Big Buff.

Make that Fil, White and Abby.

I just got to thinking how much fun it would be to put BB on the ice against Chicago.

Thanks, Jeff.  A Bailey’s and Java to you this morning, Sir, for the GDT.  Ready to start the day.

Is it too early to call it a must-win?

Schnarky.

Other than that abominable 8-13-11…:

Tomas Tatar-Joakim Andersson-Patrick Eaves

Drew Miller-Cory Emmerton-Jordin Tootoo

...those lines look fairly decent.

Still waiting for the Game Notes to post the refs for tonight’s game.

No, not against a lower team and with so many road games coming and other teams with so many games in hand.

Detroit will be the second Western Conference team to hit 23 GP.

Given other teams’ games in hand if we fall 2 points out of the playoff position there aren’t enough games left in the season to catch up.

That is loser talk. Plain and simple. Have we really sank to the lowest point in sports, that leaves us waiting for other teams to lose so we have a shot? No, really. FUCH !

Thanks OKie.

(Anybody listen to Uncle Mike’s presser today?  I cut it off after the first couple of minutes, during which Uncle Mike talked about how well Cleary and Abby are playing and how they are getting great chances and how they just have to keep going.  I wanted to barf.)

uuuuuuggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

I usually watch 80 of 82 games a year.  Literally never miss one that isn’t blacked out.  Literally.

Between the refs and the PDCL (Pavel Datsyuk Checking Line), I’m REALLY debating avoiding this train-wreck or I may actually blow a heart valve.  I care that much and I’m a fan.  Franzen’s getting paid 4m and can’t muster up the pride to hate losing.  Cheap shot, sorry.

HTO, Sutherland took a deflected shot to the noggin last year.  I’m not optimistic neither.  I thought last year was a clusterfuch with the Jekyll and Hyde act when the Wings won 23 straight games at home and were equally but oppositely hideous on the road.
