GDT - Game 13: Red Wings (7-4-1) host Blues (6-5-1) 7:30

Six nights ago, the Wings went into STL on a damn ugly two-game skid, and the prospects for the Wings season were dire.  DET looked like world-beaters at STL, winning 5-1 and starting a season high three game win streak they skate into The Joe with tonight.

Things couldn't be worse for STL.  The Blues stormed out of the gate, 6-1 in January, but since that time are 0-4-1.  In their last four contests (all at home), they've been thrashed:  1-6 to NSH, 1-5 to DET, 5-6 (SO) to ANA, and 1-4 to LAK.

STL have a league-best, ridiculously good, PP; and DET's PK is fourth worst in the league.  LGRW

SEASON RECORD:

DET:  12 GP,  7-4-1,  15 pts, (6 in Conf, 3 in Central), 33 GF, 32 GA, Last 10 6-3-1  WON 3

Eaves must still not be 100%. I don’t see how Andersson beats him out unless eaves isn’t ready to go yet.

Well Andersson in for Eaves would make sense if he were playing center, and letting Abbey run on the wing, but Abbey is centering that line.  Wasn’t Andersson actually decent on draws last game.  They could switch.

Meanwhile, it’s all about Helm, really.  He might be farther out than Smith, and that thought saddens me.

Uncle Mike might just want the big body in the line up?

Yeah but we know that eaves is physical and energetic, and Andersson hasn’t exactly been physically dominant in any of his call ups. I just think that is eaves was really 100% he would be getting more opportunities than what he has been given so far. Has he played in more than one game this season yet?

And vomit on the NBC crew!

Hope Eaves is healthy, I thinks he brings a lot of energy, usually.

Helm really concerns me.  And Oh yeah, we have a defenseman named Smith.  I don’t even plan on who’s going to be available, just look on the ice and see if I recognize any of the names.

Teddy Kulfan has penned a worthwhile read on the Wings “style of play”:

“We have to be closer and tighter and more available and better defensively. Sometimes it’s not very pretty, and that’s just the way it is.” . . .

“We have to be tight; I’ve always wanted it but we could get away from it before,” Babcock said Wednesday. “That (protecting the defense) has to be the focus, for sure. We have to help everybody, that’s what a team is. A team is helping everyone be the best they can possibly be within the constraints of the team.
