GDT - Game 11: Red Wings (5-4-1) host Oilers (4-3-3) 2:00

Matinee at The Joe.  As maddeningly inconsistent as this team is (see: Forrset Gump), one thing DET are good at is 5 on 5 hockey.  The Wings 1.42 5-5 F/A is good for 7th in the league.  It is the special teams (42jeff where is your photo shop?) that absolutely suck the life out of this team, 12.0% PP (26), 69.6% PK (29).  Are you fuching kidding me?  There is bad, awful, and a whole new level of ineptitude for DET's special teams.

On the otherhand, there is the OIL.  Woeful at even-strength, 0.53 5-5 F/A (29); the Oilers thrive on their special teams play, 28.3% PP (4), 87.2% PK (7).  If todays tilt is a special teams contest, you have to like the Oil's chances.

If the Wings do not fix their special teams - - well, let Jim Mora tell you.  For as good as DET looked at STL the other day (and wasn't Mrazek a stud?), that game was not a special teams contest (STL had 1 PP goal on 3 chances, DET had no PP goals on one chance).

Who the hell knows which DET team will show up today.  LGRW

Thanks, Okie.

You got it right - who knows which Detroit team will show up?  I have no clue.

Just hoping Jimmah gets a win so he can start feeling better about himself.

I’ll be listening on radio again, so probably no live blog for me.

LET’S GO RED WINGS !!!!!

Hey 42Jeff…did you ask me last Live Blog how much time I had left? I think so.  Plenty.  At least seven years with big challenges coming soon. More to follow.  Are you retiring?

I actually just hit the button on Thursday.  I just put E-8 on last June and had a 2 year ADSC but the AF just offered up early retirement with ADSC waivers up to 18 months.  I got tagged with an assignment to Kunsan AB Korea back in May so we bought a house back in Michigan to send the wife and two youngest to..only like six miles from my parents and my brother up in Howard City…but then in October that assignment was cancelled due to my gimpy knees.  After going back to the motherland for Thanksgiving and again for Christmas I was more than ready to retire.

I didn’t waste anytime submitting my package.  All my leadership types were pretty upset that I did it but I just don’t have it in my anymore.  I retire 1 August with 22 years and 13 days of active duty.

Thanks, Jeff.  A bowl of Pho soup and your GDT makes for a perfect day.

I think I’ve figured out this team:  if the competition sucks, the Wings suck.  If the other team is good, well, I’m guessing they’re just inconsistent - special teams or otherwise.
