GDT - Game 10: Red Wings (4-4-1) at Blues (6-3) 8:00

Going into tonights tilt at STL, I'd give the Wings little chance of winning.  DET are coming off two dreadful losses (2-4 at CBJ, and 1-4 CGY), against two statistically poor teams. DET cannot score, outside the top two lines - and don't look to the PP to help with that.  Worse, the Wings cannot keep the puck out of their net.  Defensive zone coverage looks like the monkeys got loose at the circus, and the PK is just an exercise in futility.

STL just got their asses handed to them, at home, by NSH (1-6), and they will be looking for payback for their loss at DET.  The Blues are statistically very good in almost all facets of the game, and their 33% PP leads the league.  Tonight, that ought to net them at least 2 goals.

Starting from behind is losing hockey, says Babs.  Since DET cannot stop the opponents PP, that probably applies to every game, eh?

It’s really hard to be a Wing’s fan right now. In my family we are four generations strong, and this team is lucky to have such loyalty.

Something has got to give.  Anyone that gets up this early, and is thinking Wings, is truly a Wingaholic. Sadly, there is no known cure.

Thanks OKie.

Bitches.

I agree with Mandingo- this has all the signs of being a complete bloodbath against the Wings…which means they will win in a shootout.

C’mon, people, with the Sybil-like personalities of this team, you know I’m right.

If Nashville hadn’t thumped the Blues, I could maybe hope this would be a trap game for them.  But they’ve already had that, so they should be more than ready to slap the Wings around.

We need our Helmer back.  But even more, we need more players to give a sh!t.

Kate’s right.  They are d@mned lucky that we do.

I hope Tootoo doesn’t start a fight in the first 10 seconds tonight.  Really, I get what he’s trying to do, but his line plays pretty well and they can’t do that if he’s sitting out a 5 minute major once or twice a game for nothing.  If somebody on the Blues team goes after somebody on our team, OK, go for it.

It is extremely rare for me to imbibe, but, I have discovered a brew that I really enjoy. I am going to start today and stop whenever. Here in Pa., you have the State stores or Beverage Centers as they are referred to. That means I HAVE to by a case.
Sea Dog Ale. Raspberry, blueberry, and apricot. I like the raspberry the most.  I think it’s from Maine. Like Guiness, it is an acquired taste for some. I like Guiness too, but, I am going for the womanly brew today.

Seriously, fighting is NOT what he was brought to Detroit to do, merely an occasional and inevitable by-product of the element he is supposed to add.

Fighting for side show shorts his line mates 5 minutes at a whack.  If there is an occasional score to settle that’s understood, but he is already about at the same number of fights he had all of last season.

And no, the way it’s being done does not jump start the Wings the way Bertuzzi did a couple of times against Nashville in the past two years.

Cal mentioned in the last LB that the boys were playing like the dead things. I wonder if Wayne Maxner or Billy Dea are available to coach this team.

Almost 25% through the Season of Suck for Seth (Jones) and the boys are only in 20th place in the league. They will have to lose more often to have a shot at a good draft pick.

Face it, dynasties and 20+ year playoff runs are a thing of the past. Lil’ Gary won that battle. But the best revenge is suceeding as frequently as possible under the new system. The Brain Trust is even more important in the Salary Cap era. Draft picks that do not pan out are huge set backs when you can’t just dip into the free agent market with unlimited funds. Talent evaluation is more critical than it ever was.

A sucessful regular season has one of two outcomes: 1) finish in the top ten in the league and have a legitimate shot in the playoffs, or 2) finish in the bottom 10 in the league and have a legitimate shot at drafting top talent that doesn’t 8 years of “seasoning” in GR. A regular season finishing in the middle ten is a season wasted; little chance of drafting top talent and little chance of garnering valuable playoff experience.

I’m with the growing chorus of the 19 who want the kids in GR to get NHL game experience instead of Cleary and Samy (please take your time healing).

Don’t know if I’ll make the LB because the Christopher Dorner manhunt is too engrossing not to follow. LAPD detectives shot up a pickup this morning that matched the description of Dorner’s truck and put the two innocent women inside it in the hospital.

Thanks for the GDT, Okie.

Seriously, fighting is NOT what he was brought to Detroit to do, merely an occasional and inevitable by-product of the element he is supposed to add.

We all know that, but, is Uncle Mike sending him out there to start the game with a freak show, or, is Tootoo acting on his own? Maybe a little of both. I’m not sure what to think mainly because Babs likes the gritty, ugly, sandpaper type of player. He’s been pining for some brute force, and I think he was let down when Uzi didn’t pan out as the fight a game guy.

Whatever is ailing the Wings starts behind the bench and translates into chaos on the ice. Even Datsyuk was off and that is not acceptable. If we are going to struggle we may as well bring up the young-ins and let them have at it.

We have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

“After doing all the tests, he’s very confident there’s nothing significant,’’ general manager Ken Holland said Thursday. “It’s either a small ligament strain or a ligament tear, likely a strain.

“He gave him an injection, there was immediate relief.’‘

I’m glad he got pain relief but still not sure what this means.  With a little more rest and treatment will he be okay to play without danger to his health?  Left to itself, does this mend so that at SOME point, 2 weeks, 3 months, he will be 100% for his career?

Gotta love that Lashoff was a healthy scratch for the YAK and now he is on the top D-Line and the YAK is well, where he was.

I’m with the growing chorus of the 19 who want the kids in GR to get NHL game experience instead of Cleary and Samy (please take your time healing).

Last LB it was pointed out one of the lads had been in GR for 3 years….Jeebus that is loyalty. The program may have had some substance when the Wings were stacked with talent and ya waited yur turn. However, the latest group cobbled together seems to be playing out their contracts…we keep waiting for (INSERT name here) to turn it up.  Maybe they just don’t have “it”.  Could be time to pull up another chair and join Drapes/Ozzie in their commercial fest. Let them youts play!

That said…..tonight could be the night. Still a Red Wing fan….then again, I am also a Lions fan and look what that gets ya.  Rum will make it all better, in this I trust.

Suck for Seth! The combination of a team lacking in talent (especially on the back end), Jobu helping us on the injury front, and the team tuning out Uncle Mike will deliver us to the promised land! The Draft Lottery! The Wings don’t need to worry about the depth of the draft if they can just push themselve to finish in the bottom five.
