Game Day? If You Say So Then We’ll Live Blog It

Well. Yesterday (for me) I posted an “off day digging” ditty even though it turned out to be game day for you which is practically obscene. Now, we have a game starting at 9pm Thursday night EST, I think. That means it’s 6am Friday and I’m pretty sure I’ll be awake which is nice.
Top spot in the West is the Wings’ to grab tonite and very few things in our lives are more important than securing it, holding it, nurturing it. That top spot must be cupped and fondled and there is no place anywhere on earth better suited for that than in the palm of one James F. Tiberius Howard. Craig Custance, the best hockey writer in Detroit, told us so this morning and it’s a personal decree of mine to believe everything Custance writes.
“Howard is growing into one of the league’s elite goalies and the fans in Detroit are starting to realize it. During the final 90 seconds of Monday’s shutout win over the Sabres, they filled the rafters of Joe Louis Arena with chants of his name. It was almost as if 20,000 people realized at the same moment that their goalie has matured into one of the game’s best.”
You, Mr. Custance, are gloriously correct. And this is a Live Blog, bitches.

Wings PK will make the Dogs PP better.

I don’t care how many posts you hit, how many good chances you get…if you don’t score on the PP it sucks. Right now the Wings’ PP sucks.

Too many passes and not enough takin’ the puck to the net.
Posted by calquake on 01/20/12 at 12:33 AM ET
OMFG. The Wings on the road is so obscenely different.

I was about to get really pissed if we gave up a pp goal after not scoring on two of our own.

Yes SYF….?

Not a fan of rope-a-dope hockey. I much prefer fast starts.
Posted by SYF from the Flood on 01/20/12 at 12:37 AM ET
Pretty much ever PK attacks the Wings when they are on the PP, and they can’t score. Detroit’s PK sits back and gets scored on like a cheap high school whore. Lesson not learned.
Posted by Valek on 01/20/12 at 12:37 AM ET
wings are playing as slow as molasses in da u.p. today. -5 right now headed to -20 by morning.
wings need to heat it up!

How ‘bout starting the Abber’s line on the PP next time, Uncle Mike?
Posted by SYF from the Flood on 01/20/12 at 12:40 AM ET
Evening bitches. Late arrival here. Watching the game on my droid actually is coming in better than over billeting’s “wireless internet”
True stuff, Chief. Howard gives us one thing going into the springtime that we haven’t always had—absolute trust in the guy between the pipes.
Rock on Sailor!

Hellz yes Westwing. I was noticing that a few games ago after big point shots and such where I find myself NOT looking at the back of the net for the puck.

Any Darjeeling tea drinkers at A2Y, or am I the only one digging that type of fine liquor on the Hasek?
Posted by VooX from Behind the Bar in the Hasek Club Car on 01/20/12 at 12:41 AM ET
You just can’t expect to score by trying to bang it through 2 or 3 Yotes and hope Homstrom gets a tip.
Posted by Valek on 01/20/12 at 12:42 AM ET
The Red Wing power play right now looks as if they couldn’t even score a goal agains the Red Wing penalty kill.

Wings PP = lessons in exasperation
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 01/20/12 at 12:42 AM ET
God on the goalpost.
That’s twice for the Wings this period.

The key to a good PP is usually player movement. This time I think that’s half right. Wings are moving, but no one is moving to the middle. Its a big merry-go-round on the outside which is fine for puck possession but not generating many chances.
Clang for Helm.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
