Abel to Yzerman

Full Circle

Well, here we are. Looking forward and looking back. By that I mean back to the days when it was a given that the Wings would not make the Playoffs. Many of you that frequent A2Y remember what that was like. On the other hand, many of you have only known good Red Wings Teams.

For those of us that have been through both the good and the bad, we have come full circle, so to speak. We know how it feels to be bottom feeders, Darkness with Harkness, the entire 1970s.

Some of those bad teams had players like Mickey Redmond, who scored 50 plus goals back to back, and, Marcel Dione. Reed Larson who could blast a puck past any goalie.

Then along came Mr. I., and Stevie Y., and finally, Scotty Bowman. That changed the course for many years to come. Success, winning, Stanley Cups.

That's why we stay. We keep on watching for that little glimmer of the future. We see that in players like Larkin, and Mantha. We watched players like Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Lidstrom and Kronner. Leaders from both sides of the spectrum. The future and the past.

We watch because hockey is in our blood. We're Detroiters, and, we never give up.

Wingaholics all. No known cure.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
