‘Fragile’ Wings

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,

“We’re fragile,” he said. “It’s up to us to decide we’re not going to be fragile. Villanova (basketball) has a thing above the door, they’ve written ‘Attitude.’ That’s the reality. We can choose the attitude we have. We can feel sorry for ourselves, mope around. Or we can find ways to understand that it’s a heck of an opportunity we have to play an NHL game against a good team.”

Personally, the term fragile is incorrect, for players that have worked their way to the NHL. Fragile is a term used for someone like a speed skater and is then thrust into the NHL and is getting schooled with checks, blocking shots etc, that is someone who has no idea what they’re getting into. The terms, chaotic(no idea where you should be or what.to do with the puck), no direction (playing as individuals not as a team), etc.

Oxford has three definitions of fragile:
1) easily broken or damaged.
2) flimsy or insubstantial; easily destroyed
3) not strong or sturdy; delicate and vulnerable

Which of these is incorrect?

Seems to me that all three of these are letter-perfect descriptions of the Wings right now.

If the Wings aren’t fragile then nothing in the history of the word has ever been fragile.

You are incorrect, the team is collectively fragile.

I need to rethink word usage, sorry my thinking must be archaic, I don’t see it that way, take any sport and you’ve been trounced, smoked whatever 13 out of 22 games, you’ve been bested, out played etc.for whatever reasons. These players play as if they’re unprepared. Started going to games middle to late sixtys at Olympia and what I see now only compares to the Harness era and might even be worse. The term sickening seems to apply.

I’ve been thinking this same way for a couple of seasons. We share pretty much the same history from the Olympia to present day. Yes, this team is, or at the very least appears to be far worse than that Dark Era….. Sickening indeed.
