Foppa, Floppa, Bubba Trouble

Dateline: Chicago

Frigging cold man. I’m telling you, this is cold.  I know, I know.  But, hey, it’s been a while since I experienced a true Midwestern February.  Using some public transportation yesterday around O’Hare Airport and almost got into it with the bus driver, who was wearing a Blackhawk hat.  I wasn’t cruel, just practical.  Let him know I was a Wing fan.  He became angry then said mean words to me.  We exchanged niceties for a few, but I took it easy because I have great sympathy for the Wirtz-afflicted Hawk fans.

Oh, and Bubba landed the big Swedish fish.  Yes, you know Floppa’s now in Nashville, a city that will welcome him I’m sure.  Not only is Nashville known for its love of Swedes, but hockey in general.

Ken Holland’s pleased for his friends in East TN.

Kulfan/Detroit News

“We made a pitch,” general manager Ken Holland said, “but they (the Flyers) got themselves an offer they liked. Nashville got itself a very talented player.”

Kulfan didn’t say if Holland made the statement while rocking back and forth in the fetal position, sucking his thumb and staring at the upside-down Petr Klima poster on his office wall.

DD Captain Khan (!) makes a good point in his blog that if you’re looking for the best of a bad situation, consider this: we’re probably going to see the Duckies or the team we don’t speak of (San Jose) in the first round, so seeing Floppa headed to the heart of hockey apathy is not the worst that could have happened.

Khan(!) also gives us his theory on just how Forsberg made his decision, or how his mind was made up for him.

Why would he consent to be traded to Nashville? Word is Forsberg’s agent, Don Baizley steered him there. Baizley also represents another Nashville star—Paul Kariya. Remember when Baizley orchestrated Colorado’s signing of Kariya and another of his clients, Teemu Selanne, in 2003?

Now what?  Bertuzzi?  I like that idea.  I have for some time.  Guerin?  Sure.

Hopefully, I’ll have some time to glance at the Wings boards today and compile some fan reaction.  Until then, feel free to comment here with your opinions on yet another player Holland “made a pitch for.”

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome: wphoulihan@gmail.com
