SENATORS (9-6-4) AT RED WINGS (10-5-5)

TV: RDS, TSN5, FS-D

Season series: The first game, played at Canadian Tire Centre, was decided on a goal by Ottawa Senators defenseman Patrick Wiercioch at 14:37 of the third period. Last season, the Senators and Detroit Red Wings split their four games, with each winning twice in the opposing team's arena.

Senators team scope: Coming off a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday to split a brief two-game home stint, the Senators know they've got a big hurdle ahead on a five-game road trip that starts Monday in Detroit. They're currently sitting two points out of a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with two games in hand on the Toronto Maple Leafs. They can ill afford an extended losing skid, even if the season is only nearing the quarter pole. Goaltender Craig Anderson is expected to start against the Red Wings. Forward Curtis Lazar, who's missed two games because of an undisclosed injury, participated in practice Sunday. Defenseman Chris Phillips, who also sat out Saturday, did not. Lazar and Phillips are questionable to play Monday.

Red Wings team scope: Detroit is looking to bounce back from a 4-1 loss Saturday at the Toronto Maple Leafs after allowing three goals in the third period of a game that was tightly-contested through 40 minutes. The defeat prevented the Red Wings from sweeping a three-game road trip that didn't include center Pavel Datsyuk (groin), who is day-to-day. Detroit could get veteran center Stephen Weiss back from a groin issue that's held him out for all but one game. Weiss, 31, has dealt with a number of injuries since the 2012-13 season. He's played 27 games for the Red Wings since signing a deal prior to the 2013-14 season that costs Detroit a reported $4.9 million a season against the NHL salary cap. Weiss was recalled Sunday from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League after playing back-to-back games on a conditioning stint. Goaltender Jimmy Howard will likely start against the Senators.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
